Thermal Oral-Pharyngeal Stimulation and Elicitation of Swallowing

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1998
The influence of thermal stimulation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa on the elicitation of swallowing was studied in 14 healthy volunteers. The Repeated Dry Swallowing Test was used to study the ability to elicit swallows. The test consists of 11 manometrically recorded dry swallows performed at maximum speed.

ORAL CLONIDINE AS A GROWTH HORMONE STIMULATION TEST

The Lancet, 1979
A single oral dose of 0.15 mg/m2 of clonidine was given to eighteen healthy children and adolescents and to seven patients with hypopituitarism. In healthy subjects there was a pronounced increase in plasma growth hormone from 4.9 +/- 1.3 ng/ml (+/- SEM) to 34.4 +/- 4.5 ng/ml.

Oral stimulation accelerates the transition from tube to oral feeding in preterm infants

The Journal of Pediatrics, 2002
To assess whether an oral stimulation program, before the introduction of oral feeding, enhances the oral feeding performance of preterm infants born between 26 and 29 weeks' gestational age.Preterm infants (n = 32) were randomized into an experimental and control group.

Ethanol Stimulation of HIV Infection of Oral Epithelial Cells

JAIDS Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, 2004
Oral mucosal cells can be infected by exogenous HIV during receptive oral sex or breast-feeding. The risk of oral mucosal infection depends on the infection efficiency of the HIV strains present in the oral cavity, the viral titers, and the defense mechanisms in the oral cavity environment.

Stimulation of Secretory Antibody Following Oral Administration of Antigen

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1988
IgA antibodies produced by plasma cells in secretory tissues associated with mucosal surfaces represent a major host defense against infectious agents. Precursors of these IgA-producing cells originate in gut-associated lymphoid tissue and, to a lesser extent, in bronchial-associated lymphoid tissue and migrate via the blood not only to gut but also to

Oral automatisms induced by stimulation of the mesial frontal cortex

Epilepsia, 2009
SummaryExtraoperative electrical stimulation is frequently used to identify eloquent areas in patients with pharmacoresistant epilepsy who undergo subdural grid evaluation for epilepsy surgery. Oral automatisms elicited by cortical stimulation have been described in the mesial temporal lobe, but also in the mesial frontal lobe, particularly the ...

Oral Hydration During Growth Hormone Stimulation With Clonidine

Journal of Pediatric Nursing, 2007
The arginine-clonidine growth hormone (GH) stimulation test causes hypotension, requiring intravenous fluids to stabilize blood pressure (BP) and delaying departure from clinic. We hypothesized that oral hydration during the stimulation test would decrease need for intravenous fluids and shorten clinic stay.
