Medial Muscular Band of the Orbicularis Oculi Muscle
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2012Despite the importance of anatomic variations in the muscular bands around the orbicularis oculi muscle (OOc), little is known about them. The morphology and variations therein of the medial muscular band of the OOc were thus examined in the current study.

Electrical stimulation characteristics of denervated orbicularis oculi muscle
Neurological Sciences, 2015This research is to study the electrical stimulation characteristics of orbicularis oculi muscle and the characteristics of the mechanical contraction. We observed the stimulus current diffusion regularity and its relationship with mechanical contraction in the orbicularis oculi muscle using an electrode gathering line.

Orbicularis oculi muscle activation during swallowing in humans
Experimental Brain Research, 2012Intraoral trigeminal afferents elicit EMG activity from the lower facial muscle, orbicularis oris (OR) during swallowing. The upper facial muscles and especially orbicularis oculi (OC) were not previously known to be associated with deglutitional events. Nevertheless, given the large area of intraoral mucosa and teeth innervated by the trigeminal nerve

Orbicularis Oculi Muscle in Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmoplegia
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1980Orbicularis oculi muscle biopsies were performed in 38 patients (ten with chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia and 28 controls) to determine whether ragged red fibers were present and, if so, whether they were specific to progressive external ophthalmoplegia.

Experimental Neurology, 1992
In preliminary experiments with dogs and cats, unilateral paralysis of the orbicularis oculi muscle group was produced by a section of the seventh nerve that included the posterior auricular branch. Either one of two procedures was then employed in attempts to reinnervate the paralyzed eyelid.

Electrical Pacing of Paralyzed Orbicularis Oculi Muscle
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2008ProblemIn this study, the authors investigated the feasibility of restoring function by direct electrical stimulation of the paralyzed orbicularis oculi muscle in the dog model.MethodsSeven mongrel dogs underwent bilateral surgical resection of a 1cm portion of their proximal facial nerves followed by bilateral placement of an electrical pacing device ...

The orbicularis oculi muscle: Management in blepharoplasty.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1983Factors to be considered when the orbicularis oculi is operated upon include form and function. Tests for assessing the orbicularis and techniques for handling it during operation are discussed.

Repositioning the Orbicularis Oculi Muscle in the Composite Rhytidectomy
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1992While blepharoplasties are routinely done with face lift procedures, the improvement is accomplished by removing excess orbital fat with eyelid skin and muscle along the incisional line. The orbicularis oculi muscle remains intact as its inferior border, which has become ptotic and redundant with aging, and actually remains in the same position ...

Electrical Stimulation Treatment of Dogʼs Denervated Orbicularis Oculi Muscle
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1991In this investigation, the electrophysiology and pathology of denervated orbicularis oculi muscles have been studied in dogs during chronic electrical stimulation. The orbicularis oculi muscles were unilaterally denervated in 8 dogs, and 4 of these muscles were directly stimulated on a daily basis for 75 days.

Effects of Isoproterenolon the Orbicularis oculi andStapedius Muscles
ORL, 1998The effect of the β-adrenoceptor agonist, isoproterenol, on the orbicularis oculi and stapedius muscles was studied. Rats were injected with isoproterenol (5 mg/kg) every day. The animals were sacrificed after 1 and 2 weeks, and the orbicularis oculi muscle and stapedius muscle were removed.
