Reliability of Muscle Blood Flow Measurements in Orbicularis Oculi

Optometry and Vision Science, 2014
Orbicularis oculi muscle tension and muscle blood flow have been shown to be objective measures of eyestrain during visually demanding activities, such as computer work. In line with this, positive associations between eye-related pain and muscle blood flow in orbicularis oculi have been observed.

Motor persistence of orbicularis oculi muscle in eyelid‐opening disorders

Neurology, 1995
We describe clinical and EMG findings in three patients with an inability to reopen the eyes after voluntary closure of the eyelids. Synchronous EMG recording from the levator palpebrae (LP) and orbicularis oculi (OrbOc) muscles revealed that after voluntary closure of the eyelids and upon the command to open the eyes, all three patients were unable to

Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Resection for Crow's-Feet Rhytids

The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery, 1998
Introduction: Crow's-feet rhytids are a common sign of aging. The deformity is produced by smiling and becomes persistent with dermal collagen shortening and skin laxity during the aging process. It was hypothesized that resection of the lateral orbicularis oculi muscle (OOM) would result in permanent loss of the rhytids lateral to the eyes.

Electrophysiological Study of the Denervated Orbicularis Oculi Muscle in Dogs

Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1989
This study investigated the electrophysiology of the denervated orbicularis oculi muscle and its clinical application. Orbicularis oculi muscle denervation was achieved by complete transection of the seventh nerve in ten dogs. The parameters studied were the electrical requirements needed to cause a minimal perceptible contraction (twitch) and a ...

Orbicularis oculi muscle transposition for repairing involutional lower eyelid entropion

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2014
To describe a simple technique for involutional entropion correction and to present the findings of a retrospective interventional case series study. We studied a consecutive series of 414 patients (609 eyelids). Patients presenting with involutional entropion in the absence of lateral canthal tendon laxity underwent orbicularis oculi muscle (OOM ...

Effect of Hyperthyroidism on the Orbicularis Oculi Muscle in Rabbits

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2002
To determine the effect of hyperthyroidism on both myofiber number and myosin heavy-chain isoform composition within the palpebral orbicularis oculi muscle in rabbits.Four New Zealand White rabbits were made hyperthyroid by injection of 3,3,3'-triiodothyroinine intraperitoneally every other day for 1 month.

Turns amplitude analysis of the orbicularis oculi and oris muscles

Clinical Neurophysiology, 2005
The aim of the study was to determine whether 'clouds' from turns amplitude analysis obtained from the orbicularis oculi and oris muscles without force monitoring can be used to differentiate pathological processes affecting the face. The interference pattern from orbicularis oculi and orbicularis oris was studied using a concentric needle electrode ...

Treatment of Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Hypertrophy in Lower Lid Blepharoplasty

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 1998
Treatment of orbicularis oculi muscle hypertrophy during conventional lower eyelid blepharoplasty is presented. Horizontal resection of a strip of the hypertrophic muscle is carried out, which allows flattening of the muscular bulge in an anteroposterior direction. Since no full-thickness vertical reduction is performed, this simple procedure is "free"

Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Flaps

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1980
Flaps of the lateral orbital portion of the orbicularis oculi muscle splayed out and sutured under tension help smooth skin folds and reduce wrinkles in the lateral canthal area.

The Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Sparing Full-Incision Double-Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Double-eyelid blepharoplasty was the most prevailing cosmetic procedures in China. To reduce the visible scar and unnatural crease after the removal of the OOM in the traditional full-incision double-eyelid technique. This research tried to introduce and promote the orbicularis oculi muscle sparing full-incision double-eyelid blepharoplasty with more ...
