Novel type of orbital ordering: complex orbitals in doped Mott insulators [PDF]
An orbital ordering, often observed in Mott insulators with orbital degeneracy, is usually supposed to disappear with doping, e.g. in the ferromagnetic metallic phase of manganites. We propose that the orbital ordering of a novel type may exist in such situation: there may occur ferro orbital ordering of complex orbitals (linear superposition of basic ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Exotic spin-Hall effect in non-Hermitian optical systems
We systematically explore the origin and evolution of the exceptional points (EP) when a light beam is scattered by a parity-time (PT)-symmetric system using a scattering matrix approach and a full-wave theory.

What drives the charge/orbital ordering in La0.5Sr1.5MnO4: Jahn-Teller distortion versus orbital ordering [PDF]
Temperature dependences of a magnetic and an orbital Bragg reflection at the Mn L2 and L3 edges of La0.5Sr1.5MnO4 have been collected. The temperature evolution of the orbital reflection depend strongly on the x-ray energy and reflects the different order parameteres for orbitals and Jahn-Teller distortions.

Spin and orbital Edelstein effect in spin-orbit coupled noncentrosymmetric superconductor [PDF]
Superconductors without inversion symmetry can exhibit a non-zero magnetization when a supercurrent is present, leading to non-dissipative magnetoelectric effects. Here, we focus on understanding the relation between the spin and orbital properties of these effects in conventional spin-singlet noncentrosymmetric superconductors with orbital Rashba ...

Urine is a rich source of biomarkers for cancer detection. Tumor‐derived material is released into the bloodstream and transported to the urine. Urine can easily be collected from individuals, allowing non‐invasive cancer detection. This review discusses the rationale behind urine‐based cancer detection and its potential for cancer diagnostics ...

Subpar reporting of pre‐analytical variables in RNA‐focused blood plasma studies
Pre‐analytical variables strongly influence the analysis of extracellular RNA (cell‐free RNA; exRNA) derived from blood plasma. Their reporting is essential to allow interpretation and replication of results. By evaluating 200 exRNA studies, we pinpoint a lack of reporting pre‐analytical variables associated with blood collection, plasma preparation ...

A passive high altitude deorbiting strategy [PDF]
A deorbiting strategy for small satellites, in particular CubeSats, is proposed which exploits the effect of solar radiation pressure to increase the spacecraft orbit eccentricity so that the perigee falls below an altitude where atmospheric drag will ...

Discretized Weyl-orbit functions: modified multiplication and Galois symmetry
We note a remarkable similarity between the discretized Weyl-orbit functions and affine modular data associated with Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) conformal field theories.
