Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2002The authors present a case of progressive unilateral proptosis caused by tuberculous osteoperiostitis of the orbital walls and sphenoid bone with extraconal orbital and extradural intracranial cold abscess formation. The patient responded well to surgical evacuation and antituberculous medical therapy.

Management implications of diagnosing orbital abscess as subperiosteal orbital abscess
Rhinology Journal, 2010Orbital complications of rhinosinusitis can be life-threatening. Accurate diagnosis by computerized tomography (CT) scanning, immediate administration of intravenous antibiotics and surgical drainage are the recommended management strategy. Faulty diagnosis by CT scan may lead to visual deterioration, intracranial complications and even fatality.

CT scan was consistent with an orbital abscess. The patient was taken to the operating room for drainage of the orbital abscess. Abnormal tissue was encountered intraoperatively so biopsies were taken.
