Resonances in the asteroid and trans-Neptunian belts: a brief review

open access: yes, 2018
Mean motion resonances play a fundamental role in the dynamics of the small bodies of the Solar System. The last decades of the 20th century gave us a detailed description of the dynamics as well as the process of capture of small bodies in coplanar or ...

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

Dirac Cat States in Relativistic Landau Levels

open access: yes, 2007
We show that a relativistic version of Schrodinger cat states, here called Dirac cat states, can be built in relativistic Landau levels when an external magnetic field couples to a relativistic spin 1/2 charged particle. Under suitable initial conditions,

Non Thermal‐Driven Photocatalytic Ammonia Decomposition at Near‐Room Temperature on a Plasmonic Nanocone Array

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic photocatalytic ammonia decomposition occurs at near‐room temperature on a plasmonic Au nanocone array under visible light illumination. The nanostructure efficiently harnesses plasmonic modes, leading to increased reaction rates upon plasmon decay.

Proposal of Potent Inhibitors for a Bacterial Cell Division Protein FtsZ: Molecular Simulations Based on Molecular Docking and ab Initio Molecular Orbital Calculations

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2020
The inhibition of a bacterial cell division protein, filamentous temperature-sensitive Z (FtsZ), prevents the reproduction of Mycobacteria. To propose potent inhibitors of FtsZ, the binding properties of FtsZ with various derivatives of Zantrin ZZ3 were ...

Exploring the proton spin structure

open access: yes, 2015
Understanding the spin structure of the proton is one of the main challenges in hadronic physics. While the concepts of spin and orbital angular momentum are pretty clear in the context of non-relativistic quantum mechanics, the generalization of these ...

Prospects of Electric Field Control in Perpendicular Magnetic Tunnel Junctions and Emerging 2D Spintronics for Ultralow Energy Memory and Logic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electric control of magnetic tunnel junctions offers a path to drastically reduce the energy requirements of the device. Electric field control of magnetization can be realized in a multitude of ways. These mechanisms can be integrated into existing spintronic devices to further reduce the operational energy.

Conical Orbital Mechanics: A Rework of Classic Orbit Transfer Mechanics

open access: yes, 2020
Simple orbital maneuvers obeying Kepler’s Laws, when taken with respect to Newton’s framework, require considerable time and effort to interpret and understand. Instead of a purely mathematical approach relying on the governing relations, a graphical geometric conceptual representation provides a useful alternative to the physical realities of orbits ...

Skylab 3 and 4 science demonstrations: Preliminary report [PDF]

open access: yes
Twelve science demonstrations were accomplished on the Skylab 3 and 4 missions. These were defined in response to crew requests for time-gap fillers and were designed to be accomplished using onboard equipment.
