ORC Layout [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019
We propose a novel approach for constraint-based graphical user interface (GUI) layout based on OR-constraints (ORC) in standard soft/hard linear constraint systems. ORC layout unifies grid layout and flow layout, supporting both their features as well as cases where grid and flow layouts individually fail.

New‐Onset Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Cancer Risk: A Matched Cohort Study in China Kadoorie Biobank

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rising rapidly in China and is linked to increased cancer risk, but causality remains unclear due to biases. We examined the causal effect of T2DM on cancer risk using bias‐minimizing methods.

Seagrass species diversity in Tanzania based on morphological and molecular data

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Seagrass diversity along the Tanzanian coast has been documented mainly through morphology, with limited molecular reference data available for Tanzania and the wider Western Indian Ocean. This study combined morphological identification with nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid ribulose‐1,5‐bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase

Factors associated with trends in infant and child mortality in developing countries during the 1990s

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2000
The 1990s have seen a remarkable decrease in mortality among infants and children in most developing countries. In some countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, these declines in mortality among children have slowed and are now increasing again ...

SURMOUNT‐REAL UK: A Pragmatic Randomized Clinical Trial to Assess the Effectiveness of Tirzepatide in Adults With Obesity

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective SURMOUNT‐REAL UK will evaluate the effectiveness of tirzepatide when offered in addition to standard‐of‐care (SoC) in adults with Class I obesity (BMI ≥ 30 and ≤ 34.9 kg/m2) and without diabetes in a UK primary care setting. Methods A 5‐year, phase 4, multicenter, open‐label, pragmatic randomized clinical trial is enabled through ...

Waste heat harvesting from continuous blowdown for power generation via organic Rankine cycle network: Case study of a coal-fired power plant

open access: yesResults in Engineering, 2023
This paper proposed a method of waste heat harvesting from 1.3 kg/s continuous blowdown at 354.67 °C from a 300 MW coal-fired power plant for generating electrical power by organic Rankine cycle (ORC) networks in series and parallel connections.

Tailored Mandibular Advancement Therapy Guided Through a Mandibular Positioner: Predictive Value in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Mandibular advancement devices (MADs) are a recognized alternative to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), though patient selection is still challenging. Tailored MAD guided through drug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) with a mandibular titratable positioner (SAM) offers a stable and ...

A plant–pollinator invasional meltdown: the Japanese pagoda tree Styphnolobium japonicum facilitates the invasion of the giant resin bee Megachile sculpturalis

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
An invasional meltdown can occur when a non‐native species facilitates the spread of another non‐native species in the invaded area, increasing its likelihood of survival or its ecological impact. Plant–pollinator systems pose an exceptional study system to test this concept, which remains poorly known.
