Toward a phylogenomic classification of magnoliids

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Premise Magnoliids are a strongly supported clade of angiosperms. Previous phylogenetic studies based primarily on analyses of a limited number of mostly plastid markers have led to the current classification of magnoliids into four orders and 18 families. However, uncertainty remains regarding the placement of several families.

Descalza spirituality in feminine royal monasteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Durante los siglos XVI y XVII, la espiritualidad descalza arraigó profundamente en todas las órdenes religiosas, pero de una forma especial en los monasterios femeninos de clarisas y agustinas promovidos por la monarquía austríaca. La citada corriente

Plastome phylogenomics and new fossil evidence from Dominican amber shed light on the evolutionary history of the Neotropical fern genus Pecluma

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 111, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Premise Molecular studies based on chloroplast markers have questioned the monophyly of the fern genus Pecluma (Polypodioideae, Polypodiaceae), which has several species of Polypodium nested within it. We explored the delimitation of Pecluma and its biogeographic pattern by evaluating the phylogenetic position of four Polypodium species not ...

Evidence for within‐species transition between drought response strategies in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 244, Issue 2, Page 464-476, October 2024.
Summary Nicotiana benthamiana is predominantly distributed in arid habitats across northern Australia. However, none of six geographically isolated accessions shows obvious xerophytic morphological features. To investigate how these tender‐looking plants withstand drought, we examined their responses to water deprivation, assessed phenotypic ...

Evolutionary history and root trait coordination predict nutrient strategy in tropical legume trees

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 243, Issue 5, Page 1711-1723, September 2024.
Summary Plants express diverse nutrient use and acquisition traits, but it is unclear how trait combinations at the species level are constrained by phylogeny, trait coordination, or trade‐offs in resource investment. One trait – nitrogen (N) fixation – is assumed to correlate with other traits and used to define plant functional groups, despite ...
