Intercomparison of Daily Maximum and Minimum Temperature Gridded Products Over Mainland Spain

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 14, 30 November 2025.
Extreme event of min. temperature occurred between January 26th and February 2nd 2005. Observational uncertainty is greater for minimum than for maximum temperatures, although it depends on the analysis dimension considered, so intercomparison analyses are needed.

How Service Exclusion Affects Rural Depopulation. An Approach Based on Structural Equation Modelling

open access: yesSociologia Ruralis, Volume 65, Issue 3, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This paper explores the relationship between service exclusion and the depopulation phenomenon. To achieve this, we apply structural equation modelling (SEM) to evaluate the lack of development of primary services (healthcare, education, social services, commerce, restaurants and bars, as well as Internet access) at the municipal level ...

Functional redundancy in carrion decomposition by temperate forest ant communities

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 949-964, December 2024.
Avian carrion decomposition was significantly faster when ants and other invertebrates were not excluded in Mediterranean holm oak dehesas. Proneness of ant species to forage on carrion was related to behavioural traits, being higher among species foraging collectively.

Snow Depth Distribution in Canopy Gaps in Central Pyrenees

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 38, Issue 11, November 2024.
UAV SfM techniques are used to generate snow depth and forest structure data demonstrating the high reliability to measure snowpack dynamics at fine scale over heterogeneous mountain forest domains. No ideal gap size is found for maximum snow accumulation. Small gaps (r/h < 0.6) accumulate the lowest snow.

Effective use of artificial insemination as an ex situ conservation method for the capercaillie

open access: yesReproduction in Domestic Animals, Volume 59, Issue S3, October 2024.
Abstract With the threat of extinction looming over many species, the development of assisted reproduction techniques for use in conservation programmes is imperative. This work explores the feasibility and efficacy of artificial insemination in the capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), a species in critical danger of extinction. Nine young, male birds were
