Prediction of Surface Topography Parameters in Direct Laser Interference Patterning of Stainless Steel Using Infrared Monitoring and Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents an infrared monitoring approach for direct laser interference patterning (DLIP) combined with a convolutional neural network (CNN). Thermal emission data captured during structuring are used to predict surface topography parameters.

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Optimal Allocation of Randomly Selected Redundancies to k–Out–of–n System With Independent but Nonidentical Components

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The quality of manufactured components in different batches may be different because of the influence of various stochastic factors. This paper studies the optimal allocation of redundancies drawn from these randomly selected batches to k-out-of-n system

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Order allocation in a multi-supplier environment: review of the literature since 2007

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Engineering and Management, 2013
Purpose: Optimal order allocation on the part of the buyer in a multi-supplier environment has become a major concern in supply chains.  There are numerous articles that analyze and present models for optimizing order allocation from a given panel of ...

Understanding decentralised control of resource allocation in a minimal multi-agent system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Utility computing exemplifies a novel kind of solution to the increasing scale and complexity of modern IT systems. Here, the “on-demand” provisioning of computing resources is managed via a population of independent software agents that query and ...

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Two-Stage Bi-Objective Stochastic Models for Supplier Selection and Order Allocation Under Uncertainty

open access: yesSystems
In supply chain management practices, supplier selection (SS) is a critical strategic planning activity that usually constitutes an ex ante decision made under uncertainty, whereas order allocation (OA) represents a subsequent operational decision ...

Resolving the Cu(bdc) Conundrum: Identifying Non‐Porous Packing of Prototypical Coordination‐Network Thin Films Combining Advanced Diffraction Techniques and Computational Modelling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Cu(bdc) forms prototypical MOF thin films for which a multitude of not fully satisfactory structural models have been suggested. Combining rotating grazing‐incidence diffraction and X‐ray reflectivity on two complementary samples with density‐functional theory, we first discard the previously suggested models and then identify a non ...
