Multiple Orders Per Job Compatible Batch Scheduling

IEEE Transactions on Electronics Packaging Manufacturing, 2006
This paper investigates the problem of grouping different customer orders into jobs and these formed jobs to batches and scheduling them on a single batch processing machine to minimize the total weighted tardiness of orders. A compatible batching environment is considered in which there is no restriction on the orders being from the same family to be ...

A Note on Assemble-to-Order Systems with Batch Ordering

Management Science, 2000
We study an assemble-to-order inventory system. The stocks are held for components, with final products assembled only when customer orders are realized. Customer orders form a multivariate compound Poisson process, component replenishment leadtimes are constant, and demands in excess of inventory on hand are backlogged.

Coordinating Inventory Control and Pricing Strategies Under Batch Ordering

Operations Research, 2014
In this paper we investigate joint pricing and inventory control problems in a finite-horizon, single-product, periodic-review setting with certain/uncertain supply capacities. The demands in different periods are random variables whose distributions depend on the posted price exhibiting the additive form. The order quantity in each period is required

Dynamic Lot Sizing with Batch Ordering and Truckload Discounts

Operations Research, 2004
This paper studies two important variants of the dynamic economic lot-sizing problem that are applicable to a wide range of real-world situations. In the first model, production in each time period is restricted to a multiple of a constant batch size, where backlogging is allowed and all cost parameters are time varying.

A comparative study of order batching algorithms

Omega, 1995
Abstract In a man-on-board storage and retrieval system, orders are combined into batches and each batch is processed in a tour of the storage/retrieval (S/R) machine. Batching policy determines the way to combine orders to form batches. Since batching is an NP-hard problem, heuristic algorithms have been proposed. The major steps of these algorithms

Optimal Batching in a Semi-Automated Order Picking System

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1979
As the materials handling revolution continues, the techniques of Management Science are finding more and varied application in the design and operation of production and distribution systems. This paper discusses the use of these techniques to batch orders in a semi-automated order-picking system of a Canadian provincial liquor board.

Convergence and Ordering of Kohonen's Batch Map

Neural Computation, 1997
The convergence and ordering of Kohonen's batch-mode self-organizing map with Heskes and Kappen's (1993) winner selection are proved. Selim and Ismail's (1984) objective function for k-means clustering is generalized in the convergence proof of the self-organizing map.
