Approximation for Batching via Priorities [PDF]
We consider here the one-machine serial batching problem under weighted average completion. This problem is known to be $cal Ncal P$-hard and no good approximation algorithms are known. Batching has wide application in manufacturing, decision management,

Performance analysis of batching decisions in waveless order release environments for e‐commerce stock‐to‐picker order fulfillment [PDF]
Warehouse automation is increasingly adopted to manage throughput fluctuations in e-commerce order fulfillment. This work develops queuing network models and solution methodologies for performance analysis of a stock-to-picker system that connects an ...

An integrated distribution scheduling and route planning of food cold chain with demand surge
With the rapid development of e-commerce, customers could order online to ensure timeliness. Therefore, e-commerce enterprises need to pick and distribute customers’ orders. These two operations are interdependent.

Developing heuristic and meta-heuristic algorithms for the problem of joint order batching and collector routing in single and multiple-cross-aisle warehouses [PDF]
Purpose: Organization of the order selection process is one of the most important issues in warehouse management, and combining several customer orders in one order can increase the efficiency of warehouse operations and better use of resources and labor.

Using genetic algorithms for order batching in multi-parallel-aisle picker-to-parts systems
This article aims to introduce a metaheuristic to solve the order batching problem in multi-parallel-aisle warehouse systems to minimise the travelled distance.

Order Batching and Routing in a Non-Standard Warehouse
Abstract We consider the retrieval of articles from a warehouse to fulfill customer orders of a large e-commerce business. The problem consists of an order batching phase, where orders are grouped together to be processed by one picking process, and a routing phase where the article locations of one batch are sequenced in a route of minimal length ...

Route overlap metrics to batch orders
In this study different metrics to perform order batching for a unidirectional cyclical picking system are investigated. Batches must be formed to minimise walking distance that is measured as the total number of cycles traversed by pickers.Route overlap metrics are developed to approximate walking distance before picker routing.
