Second-Order Conditions

open access: yes, 2018
Second-order conditions for both parameter optimization problems and optimal control problems are analysed. A new conjugate point test procedure is discussed and illustrated. For an optimal control problem we will examine the second variation of the cost. The first variation subject to constraints provides first-order NC for a minimum of J.

CONDITIONAL ORDERING OF GENERALIZED ORDER STATISTICS REVISITED

Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2008
In this article we investigate less restrictive conditions on the model parameters that enable one to establish the likelihood ratio ordering of one generalized order statistic by conditioning on the right tail of another lower-indexed generalized order statistic. One application of the main results is also presented.

Conditional variability ordering of distributions

Annals of Operations Research, 1991
Some sufficient conditions for the conditional variability and the conditional dispersion ordering are established. In particular it is shown that the unimodality of the quotient of two distribution functions implies the conditional variability ordering on left open intervals.

First-Order and Second-Order Conditions for Error Bounds

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2004
Summary: For a lower semicontinuous function \(f\) on a Banach space \(X\), we study the existence of a positive scalar \(\mu\) such that the distance function \(d_{S}\) associated with the solution set \(S\) of \(f(x)\leq 0\) satisfies \[ d_S(x)\leq \mu \max\{ f(x),0\} \] for each point \(x\) in a neighborhood of some point \(x_{0}\) in \(X\) with \(f(

A Sufficient Condition for Generalized Lorenz Order

Journal of Economic Theory, 2000
Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be two non-negative random variables with finite means, having distribution functions \(F\) and \(G\), respectively, with supports \(\text{supp}(F)\subseteq \text{supp}(G) \equiv [a,b]\), where \(0\leq a < b\leq \infty\). Assume that \(F\) and \(G\) are continuous and strictly increasing on their supports.

On second order conditions for quasiconvexity

Mathematical Programming, 1980
The paper presents a sufficient condition for quasiconvexity in terms of Hessian, hereby extending an earlier result by Katzner in 1970, and (by a slight modification of the assumptions) a necessary and sufficient condition for quasiconvexity.
