Reversing Conditional Orderings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We analyze some specific aspects concerning conditional orderings and relations among them. To this purpose we define a suitable concept of reversed conditional ordering and prove some related results. In particular we aim to compare the univariate stochastic orderings ≤ st, ≤ hr, and ≤ lr in terms of differences among different notions of conditional ...

Construction of efficient general linear methods for non-stiff differential systems

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2012
This paper describes the construction of explicit general linear methods in Nordsieck form with inherent quadratic stability and large areas of the stability region.

Conditions for the Oscillation of Solutions to Neutral Differential Equations of Higher Order

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
In this research, we applied three techniques—the comparison technique, the Riccati technique, and the integral averages technique to analyze and establish various conditions and properties associated with the oscillatory behavior of even-order neutral ...

Conditional expectation without order [PDF]

open access: yesPacific Journal of Mathematics, 1984
The authors show that an arbitrary contractive projection on a \(J^*\)- algebra has the properties of a conditional expectation. This is then used to solve the bicontractive projection problem for \(J^*\)-algebra. A \(J^*\)-algebra is a norm closed subspace of \({\mathcal L}(H,K)\) which is stable under the triple product \(\{abc\}=1/2(ab^*c+cb^*a ...

Nordsieck methods with inherent quadratic stability

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2011
We derive suffcient conditions which guarantee that the stability polynomial of Nordsieck method for ordinary differential equations has only two nonzero roots. Examples of such methods up to order four are presented which are A-and L-stable.

Conditions for mutation-order speciation [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2010
Two models for speciation via selection have been proposed. In the well-known model of ‘ecological speciation’, divergent natural selection between environments drives the evolution of reproductive isolation. In a second ‘mutation-order’ model, different, incompatible mutations (alleles) fix in different populations adapting to the same selective ...

Implementation of boundary conditions for optimized high-order compact schemes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The optimized high-order compact (OHOC) finite difference schemes, proposed as central schemes are used for aeroacoustic computations on interior nodes.

An Engel condition for orderable groups [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Brazilian Mathematical Society, New Series, 2015
Let m,n be positive integers, v a multilinear commutator word and w=v^m. We prove that if G is an orderable group in which all w-values are n-Engel, then the verbal subgroup v(G) is locally nilpotent. We also show that in the particular case where v=x the group G is nilpotent (rather than merely locally nilpotent).

Positive solutions of nonlinear fourth-order boundary-value problems with local and non-local boundary conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We establish new existence results for multiple positive solutions of fourth-order nonlinear equations which model deflections of an elastic beam. We consider the widely studied boundary conditions corresponding to clamped and hinged ends and many non ...
