An Almost Integration-free Approach to Ordered Response Models [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we propose an alternative approach to the estimation of ordered response models. We show that the Probit-method may be replaced by a simple OLS-approach, called P(robit)OLS, without any loss of efficiency.

Housing Security, Relative Deprivation, and Subjective Well‐Being: Empirical Evidence Derived From CFPS Data

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The housing issue significantly influences individuals' well‐being. As a crucial mechanism for alleviating the housing issue, the housing security system has garnered increasing attention regarding its impact on residents' happiness. Spatial heterogeneity and the geographic distribution of airport noise [PDF]

open access: yes
One might expect that houses closer to an airport and those in higher minority population neighborhoods experience more airport noise. We find evidence supporting these conjectures when estimating a standard ordered probit model for houses sold near the ...

Land Use Policy and Racial Segregation

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Land use policies, though seemingly race‐neutral, can inadvertently contribute to racial segregation. Our study focuses on examining the impact of minimum lot size regulations on the likelihood of ethnic minorities integrating into a community, which reveals compelling evidence suggesting that black households exhibit a preference for smaller ...

A Study on the Impact of Household Income on the Carbon Footprint of Household Food Waste: Evidence From the China Health and Nutrition Survey

open access: yesInternational Studies of Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Over the recent decades, China has witnessed a significant increase in household income, while food waste has also been on the rise. Food waste has an impact on the environment as it increases carbon emissions, which may hinder the realization of China's emission reduction targets. However, the specific impact of the growth in household income

Semi-nonparametric estimation of extended ordered probit models [PDF]

open access: yes
A semi-nonparametric estimator is presented for a series of generalized models that nest the ordered probit model and thereby relax the distributional assumptions in that model. A new Stata command for the estimation of such models is presented.

Estimation of nested and zero-inflated ordered probit models

open access: yesThe Stata Journal, 2018
We introduce three new commands—nop, ziop2, and ziop3—for the estimation of a three-part nested ordered probit model, the two-part zero-inflated ordered probit models of Harris and Zhao (2007, Journal of Econometrics 141: 1073–1099) and Brooks, Harris ...
