On the separation property of symmetric ordinary fourth-order differential expressions
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1980SynopsisConditions are given on the coefficients p, q and r of the fourth-order, symmetric differentia expressionwhere y ∈ L2(0, ∞) and L[y] ∈ L2(0, ∞), such that some or all of the individual terms in L[y] are also in L2(0, ∞).

An expression of the essential: Martin Creed and the celebration of the ordinary
2022The essay offers an investigation into some aspects of Martin Creed's work, which are considered through the magnifying glass of philosophy. Starting from some remarks on the metaphysics of the works of art, the analysis is developed by investigating the role of expression, vital dynamism, and reduction to clarify Creed's approach to the ordinary.

Integral expressions of Lyapunov exponents for autonomous ordinary differential systems
Science in China Series A: Mathematics, 2008The author describes the Lyapunov spectrum of an ergodic autonomous ordinary differential system whose underlying phase-space is a complete Riemannian manifold of finite dimension.

On Certain Regular Ordinary Differential Expressions and Related Differential Operators
1981Publisher Summary This chapter examines some properties of a second-order linear differential equation of the form, where M and S are symmetric (formally self-adjoint) quasi-differential expressions of the second-order and first-order (possibly zero-order), respectively, λ is a complex-valued parameter and [a,b] is a compact interval of the real line

On the limit-n classification of powers of positive coefficient ordinary differential expressions
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A Mathematics, 1984SynopsisLet , with each pi a finite sum of real multiples of real powers of x, and with D = d/dx. Suppose that pi≧0, pN > 0, and p0≧ε > 0 on the interval [1, ∞). Suppose that there exists a j such that degree pi − 2j > degree pi−2i for all i ≠ j. We compute the deficiency index d(Ln) in L2[l, ∞) of any power of L. It is known that d(L) = N. We

It is proved that the error terms for both the ordinary and the modified Romberg algorithms may be expressed in terms of Bernoulli polynomials and their related periodic functions. The properties of the error terms may thus be described using the known properties of the Bernoulli polynomials and functions.
