Significance of three reservoir profiles for the risk exploration in Ordos Basin

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2011
The Ordos Basin went through six main stages of geological evolution, developed three sets of soure rocks, two unconformities, several sets of reservoirs and caprocks, and had three typical petroleum systems, i.e. Lower Paleozoic Ordovician gas reservoirs, Upper Paleozoic Carboniferous-Permian gas reservoirs, and Mesozoic Triassic-Jurassic oil ...

Synchronous Formation and Consistent Provenance Across Different Particle Sizes in Loess Deposits on the Chinese Loess Plateau

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 16, 28 August 2025.
Abstract Loess deposits on the Chinese Loess Plateau (CLP) serve as key terrestrial archives of late‐Cenozoic paleoclimate. However, the formation timing and origin of different‐size fractions remain unclear. This study applies the (234U/238U) activity ratio to seven silt‐size fractions (2–63 μm) from the CLP loess to estimate the pre‐deposition ...

Discovery and geochemical characteristics of Chang 7 source rocks from the eastern margin of a Triassic lacustrine basin in the Ordos Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi, 2020
Previous studies of source rocks in the Triassic Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin were mainly focused on the inner part of the basin, especially on the depocenter and its surrounding areas.

Drainage Divide Migration in Response to Asymmetric Uplift at Eastern Qinling, China

open access: yesTerra Nova, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 250-262, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Drainage divide migration shapes landscape, sediment patterns, and biodiversity, which is affected by a variety of factors. While geomorphic index and numerical simulations have been employed to investigate divide migration, previous studies ignore the present‐day vertical velocity field.

Upper Palaeozoic gas accumulations of the Yimeng Uplift, Ordos Basin

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2011
This paper analyzes the Upper Palaeozoic gas accumulations and conditions of the study area by using the definition and method of petroleum system, and summarizes the natural gas accumulation pattern. The Upper Palaeozoic natural gas in the Yimeng Uplift is mainly from source rocks of Taiyuan and Shanxi Formations in the southern part and Wushenqi area.

Numerical Simulation of Deep Coalbed Methane Development Based on Embedded Discrete Fracture Model: A Triple Medium Flow Approach

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 13, Issue 6, Page 3045-3062, June 2025.
ABSTRACT China is rich in coalbed methane resources, especially with significant potential for deep coalbed methane development. As shallow coalbed methane resources gradually deplete, the development of deep coalbed methane has become a research focus.

Loess plateau storage of northeastern Tibetan plateau-derived Yellow River sediment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Marine accumulations of terrigenous sediment are widely assumed to accurately record climatic- and tectonic-controlled mountain denudation and play an important role in understanding late Cenozoic mountain uplift and global cooling.
