Ontogeny of protease, amylase and lipase in the alimentary tract of hybrid Juvenile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus × Oreochromis aureus)

Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2006
Juvenile tilapias (Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus), with average body weights of groups I, II and III of 55.14, 122.82, and 225.68 g respectively were used to study changes in the activity of protease, amylase, and lipase in different organs and sections of the alimentary tract.

Somatic growth characteristics of two tilapia species : Oreochromis aureus and Oreochromis hornorum

2013
M.S. University of Hawaii at Manoa 2013. ; Includes bibliographical references. ; Demand for tilapia is growing fast in the United States, positioning tilapia as the second best-selling fish in retail stores behind salmon. In Hawaii, Oreochromis aureus and Oreochromis hornorum tilapias are easily available, but currently, little is known about the ...

Optimal dietary lipid level for growth of juvenile hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus X Oreochromis aureus

Aquaculture, 1996
A growth experiment was conducted to determine the optimal dietary lipid level of juvenile hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus X Oreochromis aureus. Five isoenergetic and isonitrogenous purified diets containing 0–20% lipid (corn oil/cod liver oil/lard, 1:1:1) in 5% increments were fed for 8 weeks to triplicate groups of tilapia in a recirculated ...

Molecular characterization of Streptococcus iniae isolated from hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus×Oreochromis aureus)

Aquaculture, 2011
Abstract Streptococcus iniae is a hemolytic, Gram-positive bacterium that causes significant disease problems in freshwater and marine fish species throughout the world. Since first diagnosed in March 1992, S. iniae has become one of the most common bacterial diseases and causes significant economic losses in cultured hybrid tilapia ( Oreochromis

Estimation of dietary magnesium requirements of juvenile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus×Oreochromis aureus, reared in freshwater and seawater

Aquaculture, 2013
Abstract A growth trial was conducted to quantify the dietary magnesium (Mg) requirement for hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus × Oreochromis aureus , reared in freshwater and seawater. A semi-purified basal diet was supplemented with eight levels of magnesium sulfate (0.025, 0.061, 0.082, 0.15, 0.23, 0.30, 0.36 and 0.57 g Mg kg − 1 diet), each ...

Preliminary notes on the formation of daily increments in otoliths of Oreochromis aureus

Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 1989
Summary Daily growth increments were studied in otoliths of early stage Oreochromis aureus (Cichlidae, Teleostei). A laboratory experiment was carried out on the effect of temperature and food ratio on the otolith growth of juvenile fish. Juvenile O. aureus were reared at two different temperatures, 17°C and 28°C respectively.

Physiological adaptation of Oreochromis niloticus and O. aureus to salinity

1996
Experiments in Ivorian lagoons on the tolerance of tilapias to brackishwater showed significant differences among species and hybrids of Oreochromis, particularly in their survival rate. To document these differences, the physiological adaptation to salinity was studied by choosing the species most tolerant to lagoon environment, O.
