Ischaemia-free liver transplantation in humans: a first-in-human trial

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Western Pacific, 2021
Summary: Background Ischaemia-reperfusion injury is considered an inevitable component of organ transplantation, compromising organ quality and outcomes. Although several treatments have been proposed, none has avoided graft ischaemia and its detrimental

The role of specialist nurses for organ donation: A solution for maximising organ donation rates?

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Nursing, 2019
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To explore the role that Donor Transplant Co-ordinators have played and the future potential of Specialist Nurses for Organ Donation (SN-ODs), within organ donation strategies in the UK and other countries. BACKGROUND Organ donation

Survey factors related to consent to organ donation in families of brain death patients in hospitals affiliated with Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the past decades, the need for organ donation has increased while consent rate continues to remain inadequate. One of the most important limiting factors in organ donation is families’ refusal to grant consent, and therefore it is important to ...

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Decline in Organ Donation in Germany.

open access: yesDeutsches Ärzteblatt International, 2018
BACKGROUND The annual number of post-mortem organ donations in Germany has declined by more than 30% since 2010. The causes of this development have not yet been adequately determined. METHODS All patients hospitalized in Germany between 2010 and 2015 (

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

What factors influence a family’s decision to agree to organ donation? A critical literature review

open access: yesLondon Journal of Primary Care, 2018
Background:There is a shortage of organs for transplantation in the UK. However, whilst 82% of the population consider donating their organs, only 35% of people have joined the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.
