Let \((p_ 1,p_ 2,...,p_ n)\) be a probability distribution, \(\pi =(\pi_ 1,\pi_ 2,...,\pi_ n)\) be a permutation of 1,2,...,n and \(X_ 1,X_ 2,...,X_ k\) be k independent and identically distributed random variables with distribution \(P(X=i)=p\pi_ i\). It is known that the organ pipe permutation \(\pi^*\) makes the range \[ D(k,\pi)=\max_{1\leq j\leq k}

Abstract This book is a guide to composing for the pipe organ. Many contemporary music commissions come from organists, orchestras (which often employ an organist part-time), and church, cathedral, and chapel choirs (where the organ is the main accompanying instrument).

The Overblowing of Organ Pipes
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1943This paper reports preliminary results of research on beating phenomena observed when organ pipes are blown at pressures substantially above normal. Various investigators have suggested that the obnoxious beating resulting from overblowing comes from inharmonic partials, vibration of pipe walls, and the like.

In designing many scanning antennas, it is desirable to move a feed horn for an objective, a lens, or a reflector, along a curve on the focal surface of the objective. The most direct way to solve this problem is to move a horn on the desired curve mechanically; however, there are mechanical and electrical problems inherent in this type scanner which ...

An organist’s perspective on pipe organ acoustics. The range of frequencies produced by a large pipe organ covers 10 Hz to over 10,000 Hz. Three significant pipe organs in the Kansas City metro area will be discussed: the Julia Kauffman Casavant at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City (installation completed early 2012) and the ...

The pipe organ is the only musical instrument inseparably associated with the room acoustics of the building for which it was constructed (Cathedral, church, concert hall, private residence). Historical pipe organs are items belonging to the cultural heritage of humanity, which deserve special care for restoration, conservation and preservation ...

SYNCHRONIZATION OF HIGHER HARMONICS IN COUPLED ORGAN PIPES
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2007We report results on the synchronization of two organ pipes positioned side by side. Special attention is put on the synchronization of the higher harmonics. As possible explanation, classical theory provides the amplitude death as explanation for the reduction to almost silence of two coupled organ pipes.

Abstract Over 2000 years ago, the story goes, a Chinese Emperor was saved in battle by the action of a lowly farmer. Perhaps it was the Emperor Qin-Shi-Huang, who is sometimes called the ‘First Emperor’ because he was the first to unite China into something resembling the huge country we know today, and he must have fought many bloody ...
