Conformal Thermoreversible Gelatin‐Based Gel for High‐Fidelity Electrophysiological Recording and Acute Peripheral Nerve Interfacing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A thermoreversible gelatin‐based gel forms a soft, conformal bioelectronic interface on complex biological surfaces. The flowable precursor penetrates hair‐dense regions, solidifies in situ, and maintains low impedance through adaptive contact and hydration retention.

Normal and inverted regimes of charge transfer controlled by density of states at polymer electrodes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Charge transfer at conductive polymer/liquid interfaces critically affects the performance of organic bioelectronics and energy conversion/storage devices. Here, the authors provide a mechanistic framework to describe charge-transfer rates in the context

Bioengineered Interfaces for Peripheral Nerve Sensory Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Half of amputees abandon their prosthetics for lack of feeling. This review charts the full path from peripheral nerve injury to restored sensation, through surgical, regenerative, noninvasive, and implanted approaches, and shows how injury type and interface material properties determine which strategy can deliver naturalistic feedback, and why ...

An optoelectrochemical synapse based on a single-component n-type mixed conductor

open access: yesNature Communications
Organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs) are materials that can be used to build bio-inspired electronic devices as they emulate ion-based cellular communication through doping with aqueous ionic charges.

Poly(Alkoxythiophene) Rod‐Coil Block Copolymers for Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present the first synthesis of poly(3‐alkoxythiophene) rod‐coil block copolymers as a new architecture for OMIECs. Incorporating PEG and PLLA coils can enhance device performance beyond the homopolymer. The figure‐of‐merit depends uniquely on coil length.

Lithography‐Compatible Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Scalable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Conductive MOF thin films are integrated as gate electrodes in semiconductor devices through a photolithography‐compatible patterning strategy. CVD‐grown 2D MOF thin films enable stable operation across bottom‐gate MoS2/MoTe2 field‐effect transistors and top‐gate IGZO arrays, highlighting the potential of conductive MOFs as functional electronic ...

Eumelanin-Based Organic Bioelectronics: Myth or Reality?

open access: yes, 2016
Eumelanins, the black insoluble pigments of human skin, eyes and substantia nigra (neuromelanin), stand today as a unique source of inspiration for the design and implementation of soft biocompatible multifunctional materials for bio-optoelectronic ...
