1994The classical food chain model views phytoplankton as the connecting link between abiotic factors such as nutrients and light and further biotic beneficiaries that live on its cellular substances. Carbon is transferred via herbivorous and carnivorous zooplankton into biomass of planktivorous and piscivorous fish.
