Organic acids in post-mortem cerebrospinal fluid
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1992Organic acids of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have been determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in 29 post-mortem samples obtained from infants and 10 samples obtained from hospitalized children, as controls. Though the organic acids profile was similar in the two groups, eight organic acids not observed in CSF from live infants were ...

Cerebrospinal fluid organic acids in biotinidase deficiency
Journal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, 1993Biotinidase deficiency (McKusick 253260) leads to a progressive deficiency of the vitamin biotin, an essential cofactor for the carboxylation reactions of pyruvate, propionyl-CoA, 3-methylcrotonyl-CoA and acetyl-CoA. This disease usually presents with neurological symptoms such as hypotonia, convulsions and ataxia, while skin rash and alopecia usually ...

Organization and composition of body fluids
Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine, 2018Abstract Disorders of fluid balance and electrolyte homeostasis are commonly observed in critically ill patients and in those who require emergency anaesthesia. Consequently, anaesthetists and intensive care physicians must understand the physiological principles that govern fluid balance. This article discusses the compartmentalization of total body

Organic Working Fluid Optimization for Space Power Cycles
1991The merits of organic fluid space power cycles are surveyed and compared with those of alternate options. Selection of an optimum working fluid is recognized as an important tool to improve system performance. The main characteristics of organic power cycles are shown to be predictable with a good level of accuracy through a general method, which ...

Calixarene-Based Gelators of Organic Fluids
Chemistry Letters, 1991Abstract We have found that 5,11,17,23,29,35,41,47-octadodecanoylcalix[8]arene-49,50,51,52,53,54,55,56-octol (28C12) serves as a novel gelator of organic fluids. The properties and the formation mechanism of the gels were investigated in detail by using spectroscopic, optical microscopic, and thermographic methods.

Chemical reaction fouling of organic fluids
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 1992AbstractChemical reaction fouling of heat exchangers involves deposition that is caused by chemical reactions which occur in the fluid, or on the surface itself. The factors which influence fouling of organic fluids via autoxidation and thermal decomposition processes are described and the dependence of the rate of thermal fouling on chemical effects ...
