Scintillation response of organic and inorganic scintillators

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1999
Abstract A method to evaluate the scintillation response of organic and inorganic scintillators to different heavy ionizing particles is suggested. A function describing the rate of the energy consumed as fluorescence emission is derived, i.e., the differential response with respect to time.

Alpha-Particle Scintillations in Organic Compounds

Nature, 1950
THE papers1–7 previously published on organic luminescent materials do not enable a direct and reliable comparison of their conversion efficiencies (conversion of incident radiation energy into light energy) to be made. This is so because different types of photomultipliers have been used and not all the compounds have been investigated with similar ...

Duration of Scintillations from Organic Phosphors

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1950
Measurements have been made on the time of decay of scintillations from organic phosphors irradiated with gamma-rays. Interference between the output pulse from a photo-multiplier and its reflection from a shorted line is used to determine the time constants.

Development of organic scintillators

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1979
The development of organic scintillators is reviewed with emphasis on work that has been reported since 1964. The scintillation process is discussed. Measurements of scintillator properties such as response-energy dependence, energy resolution, timing characteristics, pulse shape discrimination and scintillation anisotropy are reviewed. Some recent and

The effect of magnetic field on the scintillation efficiency of organic scintillators

Acta Physica Hungarica, 1992
The fluorescence of different organic plastic and liquid scintillators has been measured as a function of magnetic fieldH up to 13 mT (milli tesla). In the case of NE213, NE230 and stilbene, the percentage change in scintillation efficiency ΔE(%) increases with increasingH till it becomes maximum at an optimum valueH m, and then it ...

The scintillation decay of some commercial organic scintillators

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1965
Abstract The scintillation decay of some commercial available organic scintillators has been studied on the interval 0–100 ns by a delayed coincidence method. The results of the measurement indicate that on the investigated time interval the scintillation decay of most organic scintillators contains two exponential components, the longer decay time ...

Molecular origins of scintillation in organic scintillators (Conference Presentation)

Low-Dimensional Materials and Devices 2016, 2016
Organic-based scintillators are indispensable materials for radiation detection owing to their high sensitivity to fast neutrons, low cost, and tailorable properties. There has been a recent resurgence of interest in organic scintillators due to exciting discoveries related to neutron discrimination and gamma-ray spectroscopy, which represent ...

Inorganic–organic rubbery scintillators

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2002
Abstract Spectral-kinetic luminescence properties of films, containing homogeneously dispersed scintillation particles of CsI, CsI:Tl, CsI:Na, and NaI:Tl in optically transparent organosiloxane matrix, are presented. Material is flexible and rubbery and in consequence the detectors of convenient shapes can be produced.

Recent progress of organic scintillators

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2022
Abstract Recent development of organic scintillators is reviewed from the viewpoint of materials science. Design and crystal growth of organic crystalline scintillators, use of novel solvents and solutes in liquid scintillators, and development of plastic scintillators based on novel polymer hosts or novel fluorescent molecules are ...
