New Organic Chemistry of Sulfur Dioxide

Accounts of Chemical Research, 2007
Simple 1,3-dienes undergo highly stereoselective hetero-Diels-Alder additions with SO2 at low temperature giving sultines. These reactions that are faster than the more exothermic cheletropic additions of SO2-producing sulfolenes. This has led to the invention of a new C-C bond-forming reaction combining electron-rich dienes and alkenes with SO2.

Thermal Behavior of Sulfur/Organic Copolymers

2018
It is well known that elemental sulfur during heating, at the temperature of about 159C under atmospheric pressure, exhibit an ability to undergo spontaneous ring-opening polymerization. Eight-membered rings (S8), which are the basic form of sulfur under ambient conditions, cleave results in creation of linear sulfur diradicals which polymerize into ...

Catalytic transformations of sulfur dioxide into organic sulfur compounds

Russian Chemical Bulletin, 1998
The applications of catalytic transformations of SO2 into sulfur-containing organic compounds, reported in the literature, are briefly reviewed. The authors' studies in this field of chemistry, viz., the hydrosulfination of alkenes, the synthesis of γ-oxo sulfonesvia hydrosulfination, and the synthesis of aromatic sulfinic acids from diazonium salts ...
