US-Spain Relations from the Second Cold War to the Soviet Communism Crisis: From NATO to a new cooperation framework

open access: yesPasado y Memoria, 2019
This article analyses the evolution of US-Spain relationships from the Spanish Socialists’ victory in the 1982 elections to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The work draws on a variety of primary sources scarcely used to date.

Intrinsic nonlinear geometric phase in SHG from zincblende crystal symmetry media

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 13, Issue 18, Page 3321-3326, August 2024.
Abstract We demonstrate that AlGaAs thin films and metasurfaces generate a distinct intrinsic nonlinear geometric phase in their second harmonic signals, differing significantly from previous studies on nonlinear dielectric, plasmonic, or hybrid metasurfaces.

Phase Noise in Real‐World Twin‐Field Quantum Key Distribution

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2024.
This study explores the impact of various noise sources on twin‐field quantum key distribution (TF‐QKD) systems, focusing on phase noise from photon sources and fibers. Results show that different TF‐QKD protocols are similarly affected by phase noise.

Ultrafast Q‐boosting in semiconductor metasurfaces

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 13, Issue 12, Page 2173-2182, May 2024.
Abstract All‐optical tunability of semiconductor metasurfaces offers unique opportunities for novel time‐varying effects, including frequency conversion and light trapping. However, the all‐optical processes often induce optical absorption that fundamentally limits the possible dynamic increase of their quality factor (Q‐boosting). Here, we propose and

Understanding variation in impacts from private protected areas across regions and protection mechanisms to inform organizational practices

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 2, April 2024.
Abstract Private land protection is an important and growing tool to address biodiversity loss and climate change. Thus, better empirical evidence on the effectiveness of private land protection and organizational practices, such as targeting of lands for protection and choice of protection mechanism (i.e., fee simple land acquisition and conservation ...

Dual‐Mode Polarization Control with Quasi‐Bound States in the Continuum

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 4, 2024.
A properly designed silicon‐based metasurface that supports quasi‐bound states in the continuum can convert arbitrarily polarized incoming light into either horizontal or vertical linearly polarized light without rotating or actively modifying the nanostructure.
