Transcriptional Profiles for Glutamate Transporters Reveal Differences Between Organophosphates but Similarities with Unrelated Neurotoxicants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The developmental neurotoxicity of organophosphates involves mechanisms other than their shared property as cholinesterase inhibitors, among which are excitotoxicity and oxidative stress.

Indoor residual spraying of distinct insecticide formulations in a household‐scale micro‐mosaic format: Feasibility and effectiveness for malaria vector control in rural Zambia

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Densities of all Anopheles species were approximately comparable across all IRS regimes. No differences observed between treatment regimes regarding species composition of the Anopheles funestus group or An. gambiae complex. This operational pilot demonstrates the practical feasibility of IRS micro‐mosaics, despite the inherent increase in deployment ...

Glucocorticoids modulate drug transporter function in human fetal brain endothelial cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend P‐glycoprotein and breast cancer resistance protein are the most prominent drug transporters at the fetal blood–brain barrier. We isolated primary human fetal brain endothelial cells from early and mid‐gestation cerebral microvessels and exposed them to glucocorticoids cortisol and dexamethasone in vitro.

Organochlorine pesticides and their residues in surface waters of Albania

open access: yesZaštita Materijala, 2018
This study presents concentrations of organochlorine pesticides and their residues in some water ecosystems of Albania. The water samples were collected in three ports of Adriatic Sea (Ports of Vlora, Durres and Porto-Romano), in four rivers (Semani ...

Atmospheric Deposition of Organic Pollutants: A Comprehensive Review of Sampling and Analytical Methodologies

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 7, Issue 1, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Atmospheric deposition of organic pollutants plays a crucial role in the transport and fate of contaminants in the environment, with implications for ecosystem health and human exposure. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and microplastics are increasingly recognized as transboundary threats due to ...

The effects of endosulfan on P450 1A gene expression, antioxidant enzymes activity and histopathological alterations in liver of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser persicus Borodin, 1987) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The effects of 14 days exposure to sublethal concentrations of endosulfan (10 and 40 μg L−1) were investigated in mRNA- P450 1A expression, antioxidant enzymes (SOD and CAT) activity and histopathological alterations of Persian sturgeon (Acipenser ...

Evaluating the Endocrine‐Disrupting and Oxidative Stress Potential of a 50‐Component Human‐Relevant Complex Chemical Mixture Using In Vitro Tests

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 46, Issue 6, Page 2003-2018, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Humans are chronically exposed to mixtures of environmental contaminants. Exposure to endocrine‐disrupting chemicals (EDCs) contributes to increased health impairment observed globally. This study aimed to evaluate the endocrine‐disruptive and oxidative stress potential of a human‐relevant, complex chemical mixture in vitro.

A network biology-based approach to evaluating the effect of environmental contaminants on human interactome and diseases

open access: yes, 2018
Environmental contaminant exposure can pose significant risks to human health. Therefore, evaluating the impact of this exposure is of great importance; however, it is often difficult because both the molecular mechanism of disease and the mode of action

Control failure risk, resistance and enzymatic activity of neurotoxic insecticides in Brazilian populations of Leucoptera coffeella (Lepidoptera: Lyonetiidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 6, Page 5757-5766, June 2026.
Bioassays of 36 Leucoptera coffeella populations revealed resistance to neurotoxic insecticides, control failures of ≤62.9% and enzyme activity variation, with particularly high GST and low AChE levels. Abstract Background Leucoptera coffeella is a key pest of coffee crops in Brazil, causing significant damage by mining coffee leaves.

Spatial distribution of Chlorpyrifos and Endosulfan in USA coastal waters and the Great Lakes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Between 1994 and 1997, 258 tissue and 178 sediment samples were analyzed for chlorpyrifos throughout the coastal United States and the Great Lakes. Subsequently, 95 of the 1997 tissue samples were reanalyzed for endosulfan.
