Organochlorine compounds and estrogen-related cancers in women
Cancer Causes and Control, 1995The organochlorines, a diverse group of some 15,000 compounds, have been implicated increasingly as being harmful to humans. Some congeners of DDT and PCB elicit very weak estrogenic responses in animals, while the dioxin TCDD and related compounds have antiestrogenic properties.

Organochlorine compounds in mother and fetus during labor
Environmental Research, 1977Abstract Some features of the storage of organochlorine compounds in mother and fetus as assessed during labor are reported in this paper. Organochlorine insecticides (DDT and metabolites, dieldrin, y-BHC, and heptachlor expoxide) and polychlorinated biphenyls were assessed in maternal adipose tissue, maternal blood, fetal blood, maternal uterine ...

Persistent organochlorine compounds in water and soil environments
Environmental Management and Health, 1996Reviews compound physico‐chemical properties and water and soil properties influencing the transport and distribution of organochlorine pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and chlorophenols in a water and soil environment. As highly hydrophobic compounds of low water solubility, organochlorine pesticides and PCBs are rapidly and strongly ...

[Organochlorine compounds in human milk].
Zentralblatt fur Hygiene und Umweltmedizin = International journal of hygiene and environmental medicine, 1991The impact of life style characteristics and chemical exposure conditions of about 80 nursing women on the contents of Organochlorine compounds (OCC) in their breast milk is analyzed and described by a robust statistical procedure. Information on independent variables such as age, diet, smoking, occupation and chemical exposures is obtained by a ...

Organochlorine Compounds in Norwegian Human Fat and Milk
Acta Pharmacologica et Toxicologica, 1978Abstract Analyses were carried out in 1975/76 of 58 samples of human, perirenal fatty tissue and 45 samples of human milk with regard to persistent organochlorine compounds. A corresponding investigation was carried out in 1969/70. A comparison of the results suggests that a decrease in the content of DDT and its metabolites occurs.

ORGANOCHLORINE COMPOUNDS IN PINE NEEDLES: METHODS AND TRENDS
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1994Abstract During April 1989, needles from Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) trees were collected from a network of stations in West Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Samples from selected stations were analyzed for hexachlorobenzene (HCB), pen-tachlorophenol (PCP), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (α-HCH and γ-HCH [lindane]), DDT, and DDE ...

[Microbial degraders of some organochlorine compounds].
Prikladnaia biokhimiia i mikrobiologiia, 2001A possibility of isolation of microorganisms, potential destructors of chlorinated organics from aged Vietnamese soils polluted with dioxine-containing defoliants was demonstrated. As an example, the ability of one isolated strain to metabolize pentachlorophenol and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was shown under laboratory conditions.

[Volatile organochlorine compounds in human tissue].
Zentralblatt fur Bakteriologie, Mikrobiologie und Hygiene. Serie B, Umwelthygiene, Krankenhaushygiene, Arbeitshygiene, praventive Medizin, 1988Between November 1978 and June 1979 a total of 150 tissue sample (subcutaneous adipose tissue, perinephric fat, liver, lung and muscle tissue) from 30 autopsy cases were examined for their content of volatile organic chlorinated compounds. The ages of the deceased ranged from 29 to 82 years, whereas the majority was 60-70 years old and most were male ...
