Persistent organochlorinated pesticides and mechanisms of their toxicity

Toxicology, 2013
Persistent organic pollutants comprised of organic chemicals like polychlorinated biphenyls, dibenzo-p-dioxins, dibenzofurans and organochlorinated pesticides which have many characteristics in common. Once released in the environment they resist physical, biological, chemical and photochemical breakdown processes and thus persist in the environment ...

Organochlorine pesticide residues in bamboo shoot

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2010
Xenobiotic organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are a major environmental problem because of their historic widespread use, pronounced persistence against chemical and biological degradation, and bioaccumulation in the food chain. Pesticide use is prevalent in the production of edible bamboo shoots, which are exported widely from China.

Concentration of organochlorine pesticides in wine corks

Chemosphere, 2001
Wine corks were extracted and analyzed for 23 organochlorine pesticides, including alpha-, beta-, and gamma-hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCH), hexachlorobenzene, DDT, DDE and DDD, chlordane, endosulfan, dieldrin, aldrin, and endrin. This was done to investigate the occurrence, concentrations, composition profiles, and possible sources of organochlorine ...

Organochlorine pesticide residues in Songkla Lake

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1994
The water quality of Songkla Lake for organochlorine (OC) pesticide contamination was studied from chosen sampling sites (stations) using the lakes geographic data and pollution sources. The water samples were collected monthly from 13 stations in Songkla Lake during September 1991-November 1992.

Temporal Bioavailability of Organochlorine Pesticides and PCBs

Environmental Science & Technology, 2006
Because PCBs and organochlorine pesticides continue to be of global concern, studies that address information gaps, such as factors and influences of spatial and temporal effects on contaminant bioavailability, are valuable. The present study focused on the spatial and temporal distribution of bioavailable organochlorine pesticides and PCBs in surface ...

Persistent organochlorine pesticides in Mexican butter

Food Additives and Contaminants, 2003
Organochlorine pesticides have been used in Mexico in malaria control programmes against ectoparasites and as seed dresser. Owing to their chemical stability, they tend to accumulate in the lipid part of the organisms. The stored pesticides are excreted with the endogenous fat during milk production.

Atmospheric burden of organochlorine pesticides in Ghana

Chemosphere, 2014
Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are subject to the Stockholm Convention on POPs and have been banned or restricted globally. In Ghana, concerns of illicit applications of some OCPs have been raised in recent times. Applying polyurethane foam (PUF) disk passive air samplers (PAS), the levels of OCPs in the atmosphere and their spatial resolution were ...

Organochlorine Pesticides

2016
Organic molecules are those that have carbon atoms serving as the backbone or major structural component of the molecule. The simplest group of organic molecules are hydrocarbons that contain only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. The carbons in these hydrocarbons can be arranged in straight lines and are called aliphatics (eg, ethane or pentane), or they ...

Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Bovine Milk

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2007
Monitoring of bovine milk of different places in Bundelkhand region of India was carried out to evaluate the status of organochlorine pesticide (OCP) residues. Out of a total of 325 samples 206 (63.38%) were contaminated with residues of different OCPs. The average concentration of total HCH was 0.162 mg/kg.
