Optical Properties of Fluorescein‐labeled Organoclay

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2010
AbstractWe report the preparation of aminopropyl‐functionalized magnesium phyllosilicate (Mg‐organoclay) conjugated to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) functionality (FITC‐organoclay) by one‐pot sol‐gel synthesis. The physical characteristics of the Mg‐ and FITC‐organoclays were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD ...

Effects of organoclay modification on microstructure and properties of polypropylene–organoclay nanocomposites

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2005
AbstractWe prepared polypropylene nanocomposites based on a modified organoclay with isobutyl trimethoxysilane to investigate the effects of such modifications of organoclay on the microstructure and properties of the nanocomposite. The organoclay was preliminarily intercalated with distearyldimethylammonium bromide via an ion exchange before being ...

Rheology of organoclay suspension

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2011
We have studied the rheological properties of clay suspensions in silicone oil, where clay surfaces were modified with three different types of surfactants. Dynamic oscillation measurements showed a plateau-like behavior for all the organoclay suspensions studied, which indicated more solid-like characteristics.

Effects of processing steps and organoclay content in butadiene rubber/organoclay nanocomposites

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2013
AbstractEven though polybutadiene rubber (BR) is a hydrophobic polymer, BR/organoclay nanocomposites are prepared successfully without a compatibilizer by using conventional compounding method. The main objective of this article is to investigate the effect of processing steps on the dispersion of organoclays in the BR matrix.

Influence of modifying organoclay on the properties of natural rubber/organoclay nanocomposites

Journal of Composite Materials, 2013
Montmorillonite nanoclay was modified with octadecylamine and compounded with natural rubber by the melt mixing method. Influence of the modification on the properties of natural rubber/organoclay nanocomposites was investigated. Furthermore, structures of the natural rubber/clay nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning ...

Effect of organoclay content on thermal stability properties of polypropylene/organoclay nanocomposites

Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, 2019
Nanocomposites composed of polypropylene (PP), organoclay, ethylene acrylic acid (EAA), and maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (PP- g-MA) were prepared using the melt mixing technique, and their thermal stability properties were investigated. PP- g-MA and EAA were used as compatibilizers in the nanocomposites.

Using organoclays to enhance carbon filtration

Waste Management, 2000
Organoclays have found increased acceptance as pre-treatment for activated carbon adsorption systems in both groundwater and wastewater cleanup. The reason is that activated carbon tends to become quickly blinded by large organic molecules of low solubility, particularly oils. However, it is also well established that activated carbon is more efficient

Microcapsules Composed of Cross-Linked Organoclay

Langmuir, 2012
Polyelectrolyte-modified montmorillonite particles were used to stabilize oil-in-water Pickering emulsions, which were then bound together by an oil-soluble cross-linker to obtain microcapsules. It was determined how the morphology and rigidity of the microcapsules changed as polyelectrolyte and cross-linker concentrations were varied.

Melamine-based organoclay to sequester atrazine

Chemosphere, 2006
Sequestration of aqueous atrazine by organoclays prepared from the surfactant 6-piperazin-1-yl-N,N'-bis-(1,1,3,3-tetramethyl-butyl)-(1,3,5)triazine-2,4-diamine and Gonzales bentonite was assessed using 14C-labeled atrazine. Organoclays with varying ratios of surfactant to clay were evaluated with respect to their ability to sequester atrazine from an ...
