Structure and rheology of organoclay suspensions
Physical Review E, 2007We have characterized a montmorillonite-based organoclay dispersed in three different nonaqueous solvents using a combination of x-ray scattering, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), and ultrasmall angle neutron scattering (USANS), together with rheological measurements.

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2006
Abstract Assessing the degree of organoclay delamination and layer alignment is crucial to deliver consistent properties of nanocomposite materials. A simple infrared technique is discussed that permits quantitative determination of these organoclay dispersion parameters in a nanocomposite.

The Swelling Behavior of Organoclays
Key Engineering Materials, 2007Natural clay minerals are ideal nanofillers for polymer materials and have been attracted tremendous research and development interests in the past decade. The manufacture of clay nanofillers relies largely on the exfoliation of clay particle into individual clay platelets.

Self-extinguishing polymer/organoclay nanocomposites
Polymer Degradation and Stability, 2007We demonstrated that self-extinguishing polymer nanocomposites, which can pass the stringent UL 94 V0 standard, can be successfully prepared by combining modified organoclays with traditional flame retardant (FR) agents. Using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we determined that the addition of modified ...

Thermal analysis of some organoclays
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2007Thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) curves of methyltributylammonium smectite (MTBAS), methyltrioctylammonium smectite (MTOAS), and di(hydrogenatedtallow)dimethylammonium smectite (DHTDMAS), and also corresponding sodium smectite (NaS) and tetraalkylammonium chlorides (TAAC) were determined.

Adsorption of Xylene by Organoclays
Clays and Clay Minerals, 1975AbstractBased on X-ray powder diffraction measurements of swelling, thermodynamic analysis of adsorption and kinetics, a mechanism of interaction between xylene isomers and two organoclay complexes was derived. The work is intended to resolve the factors which make possible the chromatographic separation of the xylene isomers with organoclays ...
