Kumada‐Tamao Catalyst‐Transfer Condensation Polymerization of AB2 Monomer: Synthesis of Well‐Defined Hyperbranched Poly(thienylene‐phenylene)

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, Volume 46, Issue 9, May 2025.
Kumada‐Tamao catalyst‐transfer condensation polymerization of AB2 monomer in the presence of Ni(dppe)Cl2 in THF affords hyperbranched poly(thienylene‐phenylene) with a narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled molecular weight, which is close to the theoretical molecular weight calculated from the ratio of consumed AB2 monomer to Ni(dppe)Cl2.

Isonitrile Photochemistry: A Functional Group Class Coming in from the Cold

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 64, November 15, 2024.
Isonitriles, often neglected for their unpleasant smell, have fascinated many generations of chemists thanks to unique reactivity modes. The present concept article, by retracing the seeds of isonitrile photochemistry, points out the hidden opportunities offered by visible light photo(redox) catalysis to promote key advancements in the field.

Organotellurium(II) and ‐(IV) Compounds with Picolinoylbis(thioureas): From Simple 1 : 1 Adducts to Multimetallic Aggregates

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 27, Issue 29, October 11, 2024.
Bifunctional 2,6‐dipicolinoylbis(N,N‐diethylthioureas) (H2LEt) form tellurium compounds of a remarkable structural variety. Tellurium(IV) or tellurium(II) products are formed depending on the reaction conditions applied. The formation of heterobimetallic products is observed when transition metal ions are present in such reaction mixtures. They contain

From small to large—The application of in situ polymerization within tumor cells

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2024.
In situ polymerization within tumor cells can be achieved by chain‐reaction polymerization and step‐growth polymerization. The former is classified as light‐triggered, transition metals‐triggered, reactive oxygen species‐triggered, and enzyme‐triggered polymerization based on the mode of initiation, while the latter includes condensation polymerization

Halogen, Chalcogen, Pnictogen, and Tetrel Bonding in Non‐Covalent Organocatalysis: An Update

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 63, Issue 31, July 29, 2024.
Recent developments on the use of non‐transient non‐covalent interactions based on elements of groups 14–17 in organic synthesis and organocatalysis are discussed. While halogen and chalcogen bonding are now clearly established in this area, applications of pnictogen and particularly tetrel bonding are only starting to emerge.

A Highly Sterically Encumbered Boron Lewis Acid Enabled by an Organotellurium‐Based Ligand

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 36, June 25, 2024.
The new boron Lewis acid B[OTeF3(C6F5)2]3 combines one of the most sterically encumbered boron centres with a Lewis acidity comparable to that of B(C6F5)3. It additionally provides ligand transfer reactivity towards fluoride compounds as shown in the synthesis of an Au(III) complex and a hypervalent iodine species. Abstract Lewis acidic boron compounds

Aggregation‐induced emission polymers via reversible‐deactivation radical polymerization

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 5, Issue 1, February 2024.
Aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) active polymers have a wide range of practical applications, and one of the important methods for the design and synthesis of AIE polymers is the use of reversible‐deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) techniques.

Suspension Photopolymerization of Methyl Methacrylate and ATRP Grafting of Thermo‐Responsive Polymers Using a Perylediimide Derivative Photoinitiator

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 309, Issue 2, February 2024.
A perylene diimide derivative is synthesized and used as photoinitiator for atom transfer radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate. Surface‐initiated polymerization confirms the controlled characteristic by exploiting the presence of terminal bromine on the surface of the particles obtained by suspension.
