Threatened Caring Culture: On the Sad Topicality of the Medea Myth

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies, Volume 23, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The shameless contempt for the weak and helpless, strangers, migrants and traumatized refugees attacks continuously one of our basic motivational systems, namely to protect and care for our children and descendants. The caring system is an instinctive system anchored in evolutionary biology that ensures our survival as a species.

Mitogenomic Characterization and Phylogenetic Expansion of Tribe Coccinellini (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study presents the complete mitochondrial genomes of nine ladybird species from the tribe Coccinellini and compares them with 58 previously published mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analyses confirm the taxonomic placement of these species within Coccinellini.

Protective Effect of Protaetia brevitarsis Larvae Extract on Alcoholic Liver Disease in Mice

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study evaluated the hepatoprotective effects of Protaetia brevitarsis larvae water extract (PBLE) in a chronic‐plus‐binge ethanol mouse model. PBLE attenuated hepatic lipid accumulation and liver injury by modulating alcohol metabolism‐related enzymes and reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.

Spatio‐Temporal Diversity of Calcium Activity in Microglia

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 3, March 2026.
Ca2+ activity mostly occurs in microglial processes and stays localized. When it spreads, it often shows a directional bias and is constrained by branch points. Activity strongly relies on P2Y12 receptors and is shaped by neuronal activity. ABSTRACT Microglia, the brain's innate immune cells, possess complex, highly motile branched processes. These act

Moisture Sources and Synoptic‐Scale Controls on Wet Season Event Rainfall in Mexico City: Evidence From Stable Isotopes

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 3, March 2026.
Precipitation stable isotopes, combined with backward air mass trajectories and synoptic meteorology analyses, revealed that rainfall in Mexico City is primarily originated from the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and continental regions, modulated by troughs and tropical waves. Event‐scale rainfall showed strong variability in isotope compositions, with

A strategy for modulation of permittivity in manganese doping to induce lattice distortion

open access: yesInfoMat, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2026.
Manganese atoms are doped into the NiCo2O4 spinel structure by atomic substitution, which increases structural stability through the formation of manganese–oxygen bonds. The resulting lattice distortion leads to a significant increase in dielectric permittivity. Achieving an electromagnetic wave reflection loss of −63.40 dB thus provides useful insight
