Population codes for orientation estimation

Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002
Population coding has become an essential paradigm in cognitive neuroscience over the past decade and is increasingly studied within the neural network community. We investigate the use of population vector decoding for local edge orientation estimation from a discrete set of Gabor filters.

Estimating sensor orientation in cameras

Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002
For most imaging cameras, it is desirable that the sensor plane be perpendicular to the optical axis. Such an orientation ensures that the imaging configuration is perspective and planar scene objects perpendicular to the optical axis can be focussed in their entirety.

Nonlinear diffusion for orientation estimation

Journal of Electronics (China), 2006
This letter presents an image orientation estimation method which is based on a combination of two techniques: quadrature filtering and nonlinear diffusion. The quadrature filters are used to get the orientation tensors for edges, then the orientation tensors are smoothed through nonlinear diffusion.

Estimation of User’s Orientation via Wearable UWB

2020 16th International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE), 2020
User’s orientation in indoor environments is an important part of her context. Orientation can be useful to understand what the user is looking at, and thus to improve the interaction between her and the surrounding environment. In this paper, we present a method based on wearable UWB-enabled devices.

Stable estimation of image orientation

Proceedings of 1st International Conference on Image Processing, 2002
We examine the performance of phase-based and energy-based techniques for estimating image orientation, emphasizing measurement stability under deformations that commonly occur in natural images. We also present a new energy-based technique for estimating multiple orientations in a neighbourhood and for reliably extracting multiple orientations from ...

Contour-based object orientation estimation

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
Real-time object orientation estimation is an actual problem of computer vision nowadays. In this paper we propose an approach to estimate an orientation of objects lacking axial symmetry. Proposed algorithm is intended to estimate orientation of a specific known 3D object, so 3D model is required for learning.

Correlation Filters For Orientation Estimation

SPIE Proceedings, 1988
An important task in many vision applications is that of rapidly estimating the orientation of an object with respect to some frame of reference. Because of their speed and parallel processing capabilities, optical correlators should prove valuable in this application.

Towfish orientation and position estimation

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1993
The towfish location and orientation problems that arise in using side-scan sonar to detect objects on the sea bottom are treated separately. Data which locate the towfish relative to the ship are usually deteriorated by multipath receptions and other effects. In order to overcome this serious degradation in the location measurements, a modified Kalman

Object Oriented Distribution State Estimation

2002
With the growing attention on the distribution activity, the chances grow of implementing distribution automation systems, supported by the Distribution Management Systems (DMS). A software tool central to a DMS is the State Estimation (SE) application, that allows to obtain the best estimate of the current operating condition starting from a set of ...
