An Algorithm for the Automatic Estimation of Image Orientation
2012The paper presents a new method for the determination of an image orientation -- the distinction between portrait- and landscape-oriented images. The algorithm can be applied to photographs taken outdoors. The approach is based on the use of a subpart of an image containing the sky.

Estimating Uncertainty in Task-Oriented Dialogue
2019 International Conference on Multimodal Interaction, 2019Situated multimodal systems that instruct humans need to handle user uncertainties, as expressed in behaviour, and plan their actions accordingly. Speakers’ decision to reformulate or repair previous utterances depends greatly on the listeners’ signals of uncertainty. In this paper, we estimate uncertainty in a situated guided task, as leveraged in non-

New operators for optimized orientation estimation
Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002This paper focuses on directional textures. It provides a new framework for the design of convolution masks dedicated to orientation estimation. We propose a new technique based on the combination of two complementary operators: a gradient-based operator which is adapted to sloped regions and a valleyness detector which fits the crests and valleys.

Supervised Learning for Yaw Orientation Estimation
2018 International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN), 2018With free movement and multi-user capabilities, there is demand to open up Virtual Reality (VR) for large spaces. However, the cost of accurate camera-based tracking grows with the size of the space and the number of users. No-pose (NP) tracking is cheaper, but so far it cannot accurately and stably estimate the yaw orientation of the user's head in ...

Using gravity to estimate accelerometer orientation
Seventh IEEE International Symposium on Wearable Computers, 2003. Proceedings., 2004Several wearable computing or ubiquitous computing research projects have detected and distinguished user motion activities by attaching accelerometers in known positions and orientations on the user’s body. This paper observes that the orientation constraint can probably be relaxed.
