A Termite‐Inspired Alternative to Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A termite‐inspired composite of clay, cellulose, and lignin forms a dense fibrous network with concrete‐like strength (32 MPa) and superior elasticity, processed at ambient temperature. Abstract Clay combined with organic materials is used by termites as a strong and durable construction material for their mounds with minimal environmental impact. Here,

Imaging and ferroelectric orientation mapping of photostriction in a single Bismuth Ferrite nanocrystal

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
The exploration of multiferroic materials and their interaction with light at the nanoscale presents a captivating frontier in materials science. Bismuth Ferrite (BiFeO3, BFO), a standout among these materials, exhibits room-temperature ferroelectric and

The complex kinematics of rotating star clusters in a tidal field

open access: yes, 2018
We broaden the investigation of the dynamical properties of tidally perturbed, rotating star clusters by relaxing the traditional assumptions of coplanarity, alignment, and synchronicity between the internal and orbital angular velocity vector of their ...

Tunable and Recyclable Piezoelectric Biomaterials via Ion‐Directed Guanine‐Quadruplex Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guanine‐quadruplex (GQ) assemblies, formed via ion‐mediated self‐assembly of amphiphilic guanine derivatives, are introduced as tunable and recyclable piezoelectric biomaterials. Distinct alkali ions induce unique dipole configurations and piezoelectric outputs, with K⁺ yielding the highest performance.

An application of vector based swarm optimization for designing MPPT controller of a stand-alone PV System

open access: yesIranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2014
In this paper, the Vector Based Swarm Optimization method is used for designing an optimal controller for the maximum power point tracker of a stand-alone PV System. The proposed algorithm is executed on vectors in a multi-dimension vector space.

A second-order accurate numerical scheme for Ericksen-Leslie system with penalty terms and defect dynamics in flows of nematic liquid crystals

open access: yesElectronic Research Archive
In this article, we study a second-order numerical scheme for the Ericksen-Leslie system. A modified Crank-Nicolson temporal discretization is adopted, and the pressure projection approach is used to decouple the Stokes solver.

Quasiclassical description of a superconductor with a spin density wave

open access: yes, 2011
We derive equations for the quasiclassical Green's functions $\check{g}$ within a simple model of a two-band superconductor with a spin-density-wave (SDW).
