Designing a Strand Orientation Pattern for Improved Shear Properties of Oriented Strand Board

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2014
AbstractAs oriented strand board (OSB) increases in use, improving the mechanical properties is of importance. Improved in-plane shear properties will allow for more efficient use as well as open up other opportunities in engineered wood products with high shear stresses. Based on classical laminated plate theory, composite laminates with ±45° laminate

Optimal orientation of flakes in oriented strand board (OSB)

Experimental Mechanics, 1993
Panelized housing can reduce both the cost and construction time of residential housing. The panels, generally comprised of rib-reinforced OSB sheets, are assembled into floor, wall, and root structures. Irrespective of application, commercially available OSB sheets incorporate flakes oriented generally in the longitudinal direction along the faces and

Estimating Upper Percentiles of Strand Thickness for Oriented Strand Board

Forest Products Journal, 2009
Statistical reliability methods are applied to estimate the upper percentiles of strand thickness for the face layers of oriented strand board (OSB) panels manufactured from six mills in the Eastern United States. The influence of thick strands on OSB properties (thickness swell, TS; internal bond, IB; and modulus of rupture, MOR) has been well ...

Poisson’s ratios of an oriented strand board

Wood Science and Technology, 2003
In the assessment of the structural adequacy of oriented strand board (OSB) members by design calculation, the need for the board’s Poisson’s ratios often becomes evident. However, mention of Poisson’s ratios as a relevant mechanical property is seldom made in wood-based panel test and design standards.

Mechanical properties of structural-Grade oriented strand board

Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 2001
From the viewpoint of the structural engineer, the mechanical properties of materials are the primary data required in design and grading Standards. In this regard, tests of oriented strand board (OSB) in Europe and America have enabled a review of its mechanical properties.

Blast response of a thin oriented strand board wall

Engineering Structures, 2019
Abstract There has been a remarkable increase in the worldwide number of suicide bombing attacks in recent years. These attacks have left numerous victims as well as economic and psychological impacts on targeted locations. Developing new approaches to designing and constructing blast protection wall systems is an ever pressing need to partially ...

Buckling of Oriented Strand Board Webbed Wood I-Joists

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2005
Experimental work was conducted on oriented strand board webbed wood I-joists to investigate the buckling behavior. Both lateral buckling and local web buckling were witnessed in the tests. The two types of buckling were reproduced in the finite element simulations using ABAQUS.
