Molecular and Serological Investigation of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 (EHV‐1) and Type 4 (EHV‐4) in Horses In Ibagué, Tolima

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
EHV‐1 is one of the most prevalent viral pathogens in horses; however, its prevalence is not well defined by cross‐reactions of serological tests. Thus, this study aims to determine EHV‐1/‐4 prevalence in Colombian creole horses from Ibagué, Tolima, using molecular techniques, as well as to determine possible risk factors associated with viral ...

Soil organic carbon increase on conversion of native savanna to improved pasture in two regions of Colombia

open access: yesGrassland Research, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 318-330, December 2024.
Our study revealed how landscape transformation from native savanna to improved pastures increases soil organic carbon (SOC) in two regions of Colombia. The results show a significant change in SOC to along profile (0–60 cm), influenced by factors such as grass type, geographic conditions, and soil texture.

Cattle exclusion increases encounters of wild herbivores in Neotropical forests

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 10, Page 2444-2454, October 2024.
We provide experimental evidence that fences are effective at selectively excluding cattle and increasing encounter rates of wild browsers and fruit consumers in forest patches where these species co‐occur with cattle. Our results highlight an important application of fencing ecology in Neotropical forests, where the implementation of wildlife ...

Activity patterns and habitat selection by terrestrial mammals in a mosaic landscape of silvopastoral system and forest fragments in the Andean piedmont in Colombia

open access: yesFolia Oecologica
Traditional livestock ranching impacts biodiversity by fragmenting and isolating habitats first as habitat loss, then as habitat isolation, affecting local fauna that occupies native habitats that rely on forest. In degraded areas, silvopastoral systems (
