Las mariposas diurnas en la Orinoquía Colombiana

open access: yesCaldasia, 2022

In the San Martín Region (Meta, Colombia) two taxonomic groups of moundconstructing termites, Coptotermes sp. and Nasutitermes sp., were studied. The mound structures average 40 centimeters in height and are constructed, by the workers, from trass materials composed of soil and digested ...

Soil organic carbon increase on conversion of native savanna to improved pasture in two regions of Colombia

open access: yesGrassland Research, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 318-330, December 2024.
Our study revealed how landscape transformation from native savanna to improved pastures increases soil organic carbon (SOC) in two regions of Colombia. The results show a significant change in SOC to along profile (0–60 cm), influenced by factors such as grass type, geographic conditions, and soil texture.

Integrating multiple data sources to develop range and area of habitat maps tailored for local contexts

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 30, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Aim Global species distribution maps tend to be limited to a reduced number of species or are too coarse to inform ecological research and conservation actions at local scales. We developed a workflow to generate species range and area of habitat (AOH) maps tailored to local contexts based on expert information, community science observations ...

Impact of Potentially Contaminated River Water on Agricultural Irrigated Soils in an Equatorial Climate

open access: yesAgriculture, 2017
Globally, it is estimated that 20 million hectares of arable land are irrigated with water that contains residual contributions from domestic liquids. This potentially poses risks to public health and ecosystems, especially due to heavy metals, which are

Major knowledge shortfalls for Colombian Amazonian anurans: Implications for conservation

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 49, Issue 8, August 2024.
Abstract The Amazon boasts the highest anuran species diversity in the world. The Colombian Amazon has the highest rates of illegal deforestation, leading to accelerated species loss. The objective of this review was to identify knowledge shortfalls in anuran research to effectively address conservation efforts.

Implications of the scale of detection for inferring co‐occurrence patterns from paired camera traps and acoustic recorders

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 3, June 2024.
Abstract Multifunctional landscapes that support economic activities and conservation of biological diversity (e.g., cattle ranches with native forest) are becoming increasingly important because small remnants of native forest may comprise the only habitat left for some wildlife species. Understanding the co‐occurrence between wildlife and disturbance

Integrating Soil Compactness, Carbon Stocks, and Pieri-Index-Based Structural Vulnerability for Soil Quality Assessment Across Tropical Land-Use Systems

open access: yesLand
Integrated assessments combining soil compactness, carbon storage, and structural vulnerability remain scarce in tropical soils of the Colombian Orinoquia. Soil physical condition was compared across natural forest (n = 21), secondary vegetation (n = 27),
