Structures, Properties and Potential Applications of Ormosils

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1998
Ormosils are organic-inorganic hybrid solids in which the organic component may be chemically bonded to a silica matrix. Somewhat similar to inorganic silicate glasses, the structure of the silica network can be modified by the presence of organic groups.

ORMOSIL Composite Phosphors Incorporated with Lanthanide Complexes

Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan, 2000
Abstract Lanthanide complexes, [Eu(phen)2]Cl3 and [Tb(bpy)2]Cl3, were doped into organically modified silicate (ORMOSIL) matrices over a wide range of composition. The features and luminescence behavior of the resultant composite products were strongly dependent on the matrix composition. Transparent ORMOSIL composite phosphor disks were

CdSe Quantum Dot Doped Amine-Functionalized Ormosils

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1998
Nanosized phenyl-capped CdSe particles (quantum dots) were isolated, after preparation inside reversed micelles present in AOT/H2 O/heptane, and then successfully redispersed in amine-functionalized ormosils derived from 3-aminopropyl(trimethoxy)silane (i.e., SA). Doped ormosils were formed into films of a few μm thickness or small bulk samples.

Photochromic naphthopyrans in sol–gel ormosil coatings

Journal of Materials Chemistry, 2003
The sol–gel method has been used to entrap photochromic naphthopyran molecules in ormosil coatings. The resulting films exhibited a rapid and reversible color change upon irradiation with UV light, leading to deeply colored coatings. The bleaching of the samples can be attained by both thermal and photo-induced processes. The photochromic properties of

Controlled size of PbS nanocrystals doped ORMOSIL

Optical Materials, 2003
PbS semiconductor nanocrystals were grown inside an organically modified silicate (ORMOSIL) matrix prepared by the sol–gel method assisted by high power ultrasounds. Surface capping agent was used to control the growth and aggregation of PbS nanocrystals. The SANS intensity exhibits a crossover at 0.1 nm 1 .

Phosphonate-functionalized ORMOSIL coatings for magnesium alloys

Progress in Organic Coatings, 2009
Abstract Hybrid organically modified silicates, or ORMOSIL materials, with covalently attached pendant phosphonate groups were processed by a sol–gel method. A hydrolysis and condensation route was used involving a phosphonato-silane and resultant films were evaluated as prospective coatings for magnesium AZ31B alloy substrates.
