Reproducible Green Syntheses Using Hybrid Sol‐Gel Catalysts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 50, September 5, 2024.
Aiming to contribute to eradicate a certain naiveté common to many research chemists specializing in green chemistry and catalysis, this study illustrates through selected examples of reproducible green syntheses using hybrid sol‐gel catalysts from doctoral theses and research articles published between 2013 and early 2024, how said catalysts have been

Probing Silica—Organic Hybrid Materials Using Small Probes: Simulation of Adsorption Equilibria Influenced by Cooperativity Effects

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2014
The property of non-ideality (cooperativity effects, energetic heterogeneity of binding centres) is often observed at probing surfaces by small ionic or molecular probes.

Carbon Dots: A Review with Focus on Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 35, September 18, 2024.
Carbon dots (CDs) are an emerging class of optical nanomaterials, which can deliver function on par with the incumbents, while being free from toxic metals and critical raw materials. In particular, CDs derived from plentiful biomass can become truly sustainable, provided that their synthesis and processing are environmentally friendly.

Sol-Gel Silica Nanoparticles in Medicine: A Natural Choice. Design, Synthesis and Products

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
Silica is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust, and over time it has been introduced first into human life and later into engineering. Silica is present in the food chain and in the human body.

Photochromic properties of spirooxazine dyes in ormocer gels and coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The wet- and "cold"-chemical characteristic of sol-gel process makes the sol-gel derived materials offer exciting potentials as hosts for photochromic dyes.

Strengthening of SLS Glasses by Hybrid Ormosil Coatings

open access: yesKey Engineering Materials, 2004
Hybrid ormosil (organic-inorganic) solutions can be used to coat float glass samples in order to increase their strength. The ormosil solution in this present work contains silane, epoxy resin and hardener based on Al-alkoxide. The glass samples were indented at their center in order to create artificial flaws.

Mechanically Strengthened Aerogels through Multiscale, Multicompositional, and Multidimensional Approaches: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 36, Issue 18, May 2, 2024.
It has already been ≈90 years since the first development of aerogels, and many researchers have devoted tremendous efforts to enhance their mechanical properties, which is yet completely achieved. This review presents multiscale, multicompositional and multidimensional strategies, resulting from flexible synthesis techniques for 0D–1D, 0D–2D, 1D–2D ...
