Global Trends in the Status of Bird and Mammal Pollinators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Biodiversity is declining, with direct and indirect effects on ecosystem func-tions and services that are poorly quantified. Here, we develop the first globalassessment of trends in pollinators, focusing on pollinating birds and mam-mals.

Long‐term progression of inbreeding depression in a Mediterranean ornithophilous shrub

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 103-117, January 2022., 2022
In Anagyris foetida, an ornithophilous Mediterranean species, vegetative and reproductive traits were analyzed in two progenies (selfed and outcrossed) 12 years after transplantation. Levels of inbreeding depression (ID) found were similar to the levels obtained 3 years after transplantation.

Pollination and breeding system of Canna paniculata(Cannaceae) in a montane Atlantic Rainforest: asymmetric dependence on a hermit hummingbird

open access: yesActa Botânica Brasílica, 2015
We studied the pollination biology of Canna paniculata (Cannaceae), a plant species common in the Atlantic Rainforest of southeastern Brazil. The species presents specialized ornithophilous flowers, which in our study area are solely pollinated by the ...

Phylogeny, Adaptive Radiation, and Historical Biogeography of Bromeliaceae Inferred from ndhF Sequence Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Cladistic analysis of ndhF sequences identifies eight major bromeliad clades arranged in ladderlike fashion. The traditional subfamilies Tillandsioideae and Bromelioideae are monophyletic, but Pitcairnioideae are paraphyletic, requiring the description of

Nectary structure of Ornithidium sophronitis Rchb.F. (Orchidaceae: Maxillariinae)

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2012
Most orchids do not produce floral food-rewards. Instead, they attract pollinators by mimicry or deceit. When present, the most common floral food-reward is nectar.

Flowering phenology and pollination of ornithophilous species in two habitats of Serra da Bodoquena, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2010
The aim of this study is to describe interactions between hummingbirds and ornithophilous species at Serra da Bodoquena in midwest Brazil, with focus on flowering phenology and pollination of these plant species.

Delayed differentiation of epidermal cells walls can underlie pedomorphosis in plants: the case of pedomorphic petals in the hummingbird-pollinated Caiophora hibiscifolia (Loasaceae, subfam. Loasoideae) species. [PDF]

open access: yesEvodevo, 2022
Understanding the relationship between macroevolutionary diversity and variation in organism development is an important goal of evolutionary biology. Variation in the morphology of several plant and animal lineages is attributed to pedomorphosis, a case

Nectary structure in Symphyglossum sanguineum (Rchb.f. ) Schltr. (Orchidaceae)

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2012
Ornithophily occurs in a great number of orchid species but despite this, researchers have largely neglected to investigate their nectaries. The aim of this study is to describe the nectary structure of Symphyglossum sanguineum, a species presumed to be ...

Variação na arquitetura floral e sucesso reprodutivo de duas espécies de Helicteres (Malvaceae), na região sudoeste de Mato Grosso Variation of floral architecture and reproductive success of two Helicteres (Malvaceae) species in southwestern Mato Grosso
