Flowers visited by hummingbirds in the open habitats of the southeastern brazilian mountaintops: species composition and seasonality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The hummingbird-visited plant community located on the open-habitat mountaintop of the Espinhaço Range was studied for two years (from August 2007 to July 2009) in Serra do Cipó National Park, Southeastern Brazil (19° 15′ S and 43° 31′ W).

Bird‐flower colour on islands supports the bee‐avoidance hypothesis

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 3, Page 600-611, March 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Many insular plant species inhabiting different archipelagos worldwide present typical ornithophilous floral traits (e.g. copious nectar, red‐orange colours), but most of them are visited by insectivorous/granivorous birds and lizards, which act as generalist ...

Evolution of pollination by frugivorous birds in Neotropical Myrtaceae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Bird pollination is relatively common in the tropics, and especially in the Americas. In the predominantly Neotropical tribe Myrteae (Myrtaceae), species of two genera, Acca and Myrrhinium, offer fleshy, sugary petals to the consumption of birds that ...

Drivers of sunbird‐plant interactions on Mount Cameroon: Between neutrality and niche‐based processes

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 1, Page 136-148, January 2024.
Sunbird‐plant interactions on MountCameroon are driven by both neutral and niche‐based processes. The importance of niche‐based processes increases during the rainy season, due to the phenology of specialized of ornithophilous flowers. Moreover, we can confirm the importance of the correlation between tube and bill length.

High incidence of plant-animal mutualisms in the woody flora of the temperate forest of southern South America : biogeographical origin and present ecological significance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The flora of the temperate forest of southern South America highly depends on animals for pollination and seed dispersal. This resembles more tropical settings and distinguishes it from other temperate floras.
