Lectotypifications and taxonomic changes in the holoparasitic Orobanchaceae

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 8, August 2026.
Based on further extensive studies of specimens in various herbaria, lectotypes are designated for many taxa of holoparasitic Orobanchaceae. In particular, 47 names in the genera Boschniakia (incl. Xylanche), Cistanche, Orobanche, Phelipanche and Phelypaea are lectotypified.

Marker Development for Phylogenomics: The Case of Orobanchaceae, a Plant Family with Contrasting Nutritional Modes

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Phylogenomic approaches, employing next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques, have revolutionized systematic and evolutionary biology. Target enrichment is an efficient and cost-effective method in phylogenomics and is becoming increasingly popular ...

All pieces together now? A phylogenomic analysis and tribe‐level classification of the heterogeneous family Plantaginaceae

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract The plant family Plantaginaceae comprises approximately 2100 species in 106 genera, representing around 1% of all eudicots. The current circumscription of the family has been established in recent decades based on insights from DNA‐based phylogenetic analyses, which have united genera previously considered unrelated.

Parasitic success of the pathogenic plant Phelipanche ramosa (L.) Pomel. (Orobanchaceae) differs in some re‐infected versus naïve tomato cultivars

open access: yesWeed research (Print)
Plants are exposed to infection and predation by organisms from most kingdoms of life, including their own. Layers of molecular defence mechanisms have evolved to limit damage and disease from microbial and insect pathogens, and plants can also defend ...

Taxonomic complexity in the parasitic plant genus Cistanche: Evidence from phylogenomics

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract “Desert hyacinths” (genus Cistanche) are striking parasitic plants of historical and cultural importance that include species traded widely for herbal medicine. Despite the need for robust taxonomy, the application of names in the genus remains confused.

Cryptic Species Diversification of the Pedicularis siphonantha Complex (Orobanchaceae) in the Mountains of Southwest China Since the Pliocene

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Morphological approaches often fail to delimit species in recently derived species complexes. This can be exacerbated in historical collections which may have lost key features in specimen preparation and preservation.

The complete chloroplast genome of hemi-parasitic Pedicularis hallaisanensis (Orobanchaceae)

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
We determined the complete chloroplast genome of Pedicularis hallaisanensis (Orobanchaceae), a hemi-parasitic perennial herb. This genome is 143,469 bp long and features a large single-copy region (81,664 bp) and a small single-copy region (12,203 bp ...

Botanical inventory of the early book herbaria of Leonhard Rauwolf from southern France and northern Italy (1560–1563)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Sixteenth‐century herbaria are the oldest plant collections that survive today and, as such, they provide valuable insights in past floras and historical botanical interactions. One of the most fascinating still extant 16th‐century herbaria is the four‐volume collection of the German physician, botanist and traveler Leonhard Rauwolf (1535 ...

Synthesizing Existing Phylogenetic Data to Advance Phylogenetic Research in Orobanchaceae

open access: yesSystematic Botany, 2022
To date, no comprehensive phylogenetic analyses have been conducted in Orobanchaceae that include both a wide sampling of genera and a large sampling of species.
