The obligate root parasite Orobanche cumana exhibits several rbcL sequences

Gene, 2002
Orobanche species characterization using plastid sequences as molecular markers revealed that O. cumana contains at least two distinct rbcL sequences: one similar in size to the truncated rbcL pseudogene from O. cernua, a closely related species, and another with a size comparable to that of rbcL plastid genes from autotrophic plants. In this work, the

The role of peroxidase in the resistance of sunflower against Orobanche cumana in Russia

Weed Research, 1996
SummaryWe present the results of a histochemical study comparing seedlings of races C and D of Orobanche cumana Wallr. (syn. O. cernua Loefl.) attacking sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) in southern Russia. Three groups of O. cumana seedlings were distinguished according to the peroxidase content of the cells in the radicles: (1) those with neither ...

[Pharmacodynamic effects of the extracts from Orobanche cumana].

Zhong yao cai = Zhongyaocai = Journal of Chinese medicinal materials, 2003
Pharmacodynamic effects of the extracts from Orobanche cumana were studied for the first time. The result showed that it has the effects of antifatigue, facilitating immune function and an andrin-like action. It is consided that Orobanche cumana can be developed as a new medicinal resource plant.

Inheritance of Resistance toOrobanche cumanain Sunflower

Phytopathology, 1993
The inheritance of resistance to Orobanche cumata (sunflower broom-rape) in the resistant sunflower lines SW-501 and RW-637 and the hybrid Sunbred-254 was studied in crosses with susceptible sunflower cultivars Aya and DI-1, in the field and in the growth chamber. Resistance in SW-501 and RW-637 was conferred by a single dominant gene.

Quantitative trait loci for broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) resistance in sunflower

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2004
Broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) is a root parasite of sunflower that is regarded as one of the most important constraints of sunflower production in the Mediterranean region. Breeding for resistance is the most effective method of control. P-96 is a sunflower line which shows dominant resistance to broomrape race E and recessive resistance to the ...

Sunflower sesquiterpene lactone models induce Orobanche cumana seed germination

Phytochemistry, 2000
Six sunflower sesquiterpene lactone models which share structural features of the lactone rings of strigol and its synthetic analogues, the GR family, with different conformational flexibilities were tested as Orobanche cumana germination stimulants. Among them, parthenolide and 3,5-dihydroxydehydrocostus-lactone significantly increased O.

Genetic resistance to sunflower broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.)

2018
Orobanche cumana Wallr causes important economic damage in sunflower production in a number of countries around the world. Historically, breeders have been successful in developing cultivars resistant to this parasite, but the introduction of new resistance sources has been followed by the appearance of new pathogenic races overcoming resistance ...
