Orobanche cumana Wallr. is a root parasitic plant that causes considerable yield losses of up to 50% in sunflower Helianthus annuus plantations. The holoparasite fulfills its entire demand for water, minerals, and organic nutrients from the host’s ...

Breeding strategies for Orobanche cumana resistance in sunflower [PDF]
Broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) is one of the most important constraints on sunflower production in Europe and Asia. It produces a large number of small seeds that are easily disseminated, leading to the build-up of O. cumana populations, and the constant appearance of new, and more virulent races.

Sesquiterpene Lactones Isolated from Centaurea cineraria L. subsp. cineraria Inhibit the Radicle Growth of Broomrape Weeds [PDF]
The plant Centaurea cineraria L. subsp. cineraria has been investigated as a potential source of inhibitors of broomrape radicle growth. The latter are weeds that pose a threat to agriculture and for which there are few methods available for the control ...

DURABLE RESISTANCE TO BROOMRAPE (Orobanche cumana Wallr. / Orobanche cernua Loefl.) IN SUNFLOWER / RESISTENCIA CONSTANTE A LA OROBANCA (Orobanche cumana Wallr./Orobanche cernua Loefl.) EN EL GIRASOL / RÉSISTANCE DURABLE À L’OROBANCHE (Orobanche cumana Wallr./Orobanche cernua Loefl.) CHEZ LE TOURNESOL [PDF]
SUMMARY Six cultivars and one hybrid were evaluated for resistance to broomrape in the period 1988-1999. It was found that the resistance varied in the range from 0 to 100%. The evaluation was carried out under greenhouse conditions. Infestations were induced by mixed broomrape populations collected from different regions in Bulgaria.
