Orthodontic adhesives and bond strengthtesting
Seminars in Orthodontics, 1997A bracket bond failure is a frustrating occurrence in orthodontic practice. Because the location of the bond failure may indicate the probable cause, it is important to understand the significance of "bond strength" in a clinical application. Bonding in orthodontics can be studied using controlled clinical models or in vitro using simulated clinical ...

Microbial attack of orthodontic adhesives
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1995Composites used as orthodontic direct bonding adhesives have a polymeric matrix that can host and nurture a variety of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms acting alone or in combination (consortia). Their accumulation can lead to the weakening of the bond and possibly the attacking of the tooth.

Surface characteristics of orthodontic adhesives and effects on streptococcal adhesion
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2010In this study, we analyzed the surface roughness (SR) and surface free energy (SFE) characteristics of various orthodontic adhesives and their effects on the adhesion of mutans streptococci (MS).Three nonfluoride-releasing composites, 1 fluoride-releasing composite, 1 polyacid-modified composite (compomer), and 2 resin-modified glass ionomers (RMGIs ...

Bond strength of three orthodontic adhesives
American Journal of Orthodontics, 1981A method was devised to study the bond strength of direct-bonding orthodontic adhesives. A shear load was applied parallel to the tooth-adhesive-bracket interface by means of an Instron Universal Testing Machine. The bond strength was found to increase for some products after 27 days.

Adhesion and orthodontic plastic attachments
American Journal of Orthodontics, 1969Abstract I should like to stress that bonded attachments are not a panacea for orthodontic treatment. To date, I employ plastic attachments as an adjunct to my orthodontic armamentarium, not as a replacement in toto of metal bands. Philosophies and techniques requiring applications of heavy and adverse directional forces should be modified and ...

Adhesion of Orthodontic Cements to Human Enamel
Journal of Dental Research, 1976Tensile bond strengths between five orthodontic cements and acid-etched enamel were studied. The influence of a saline primer and storage in artificial saliva at 37 C for up to 30 days was evaluated. Statistically significant differences were found for different cements, time of storage, and the effect of silane pretreatment on etched enamel.

Release of monomers from orthodontic adhesives
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2016Most composite resins release both bisphenol A (BPA), which disrupts the endocrine balance, and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), which has high risks for human health: eg, allergies and cytotoxicity. The aim of this study was to characterize monomers released from orthodontic adhesives. We studied samples of orthodontic adhesives by ...
