Transverse Growth of Facial Soft Tissues: A Longitudinal Three‐Dimensional Facial Growth Study

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This longitudinal cohort study aimed to determine the pattern of transverse facial growth from ages 10 to 18 years. Materials and Methods 101 individuals (male, n = 56; female, n = 45) were observed. Three‐dimensional facial surface images were acquired using stereophotogrammetry every 6 months.

A Dual Cell‐Line Molecular Platform to Assess Sub‐Threshold Biocompatibility: Application to Processed Orthodontic Clears Aligners

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Traditional biocompatibility assessments primarily address cytotoxicity and bulk material properties but often overlook molecular responses that occur below toxicity thresholds. Detecting these subtle effects is crucial for materials intended for prolonged contact with human tissues.

Biomechanical Assessment of Root Torque in Clear Aligners: Impact of Trimline Design, Engagers, and Pressure Points With Palatal Compensation Movement

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Root torque control is essential for guiding the proper movement of anterior teeth, primarily to prevent periodontal complications. This movement, in clear aligner therapy (CAT), requires precise force application to minimize unintended displacements.

Dentoalveolar Changes in the Premolar Region After Two Maxillary Expansion Protocols

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the dentoalveolar effects on the upper first premolars after two maxillary expansion protocols—rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and alternate rapid maxillary expansion and constriction (Alt‐RAMEC)—before and 6 months after treatment.

Three‐Dimensional Effects of Two Minimally Invasive Surgically Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion Techniques

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study evaluated, in three dimensions, the skeletal effects of two minimally invasive bone‐anchored techniques for surgically assisted palatal expansion, with and without pterygomaxillary disjunction (PD) and nasal septum disinsertion (NSD). Materials and Methods Thirty‐nine patients were retrospectively selected from two centres

Orthodontic Patients' Motivation and Decision‐Making for Seeking Treatment With Traditional Fixed Appliances, Clear Aligners and Direct‐To‐Consumer Clear Aligners: A Qualitative Study—Part I

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Qualitative data helps explore factors surrounding patients' decisions with orthodontic treatment. The objectives were (1) to understand patients' motivation to undertake orthodontic treatment, (2) to understand their choices of a specific treatment modality, and (3) to determine the kinds of information provided to patients prior to
