Orthodontic Archwire in the Nasal Cavity. A Case Report
Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics / Fortschritte der Kieferorthopädie, 2009We present the unusual case of a patient who lost an orthodontic archwire after having, via manipulation, detached it from the brackets. It was only on a routine radiograph at the end of treatment that the archwire was found in the patient's nasal cavity, where it had failed to cause any symptoms!

Determination of the flexural modulus of elasticity of orthodontic archwires
Dental Materials, 2010To design a protocol for the determination of the flexural modulus of elasticity of wire with high accuracy and precision.Cantilever bending was used at long span and low loads, using a laser displacement sensor. Various wires were tested for proof-of-concept: stainless steel, Elgiloy, Wiptam and a gold alloy, with primary attention being paid to the ...

Customized brackets and archwires for lingual orthodontic treatment
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2003After 20 months of clinical testing and more than 600 bonded arches, brief interim conclusions can be drawn on treatment with a new lingual bracket system, one that differs fundamentally from conventional appliances in both design and manufacture. The demand for maximum individuality is met by using state-of-the-art computer-aided design/computer-aided

Mechanical behavior of thermo-responsive orthodontic archwires
Dental Materials, 1996This investigation was conducted to describe the mechanical behavior of thermo-responsive nitinol archwires in flexure at 5 degrees and 37 degrees C.Four same-sized (but different force level) rectangular archwires were examined using a three-point bend test. Samples were tested at 5 degrees and 37 degrees C.

Esthetic orthodontic archwires: Literature review
Journal of Orthodontic Research, 2013There is a growing request for esthetic orthodontic appliances and by the effect of this request, most of the companies produced new esthetic appliances. These new appliances combine both acceptable esthetics and adequate technical performance. Recently, coated metallic and fiber-reinforced wires have beenintroduced to solve esthetic appearance problem.

Lingual orthodontics (Part 2): Archwire fabrication
Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics / Fortschritte der Kieferorthopädie, 1999One essential component of a successful lingual treatment concept is the precise calculation and manufacture of individual lingual arch wires. As in several parts of daily life, the use of modern CAD/CAM technology leads in lingual orthodontic treatment to a rationalisation of working processes with maximized precision.
