Early orthodontic treatment

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1993
Interception by definition means "to stop, deflect, or interrupt the progress or intended course." The objective of interceptive orthodontic supervision is to create a more normal dentofacial environment as early as possible to prevent the adaptations and limitations that are often associated with a significant malocclusion in late adolescence.

Pneumoparotitis with orthodontic treatment

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1993
Self-induced pneumoparotitis has not been commonly associated with orthodontic treatment nor dental treatment in general. However, the patient described previously and the other reported cases demonstrate the distinct possibility that accommodation to appliance irritation by "puffing out" the cheeks could result in parotid swelling.

Orthodontic treatment planning software

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 2006
A new software is described that can receive patient data in both graphic and numeric forms and then propose a treatment plan for nonsurgical orthodontic patients. The concepts of fuzzy logic enable the software to work with nominal parameters; the human brain is naturally accustomed to fuzzy variables.
